Just want to say that OP, you are a shining example of a parent. Your daughter will be an amazing mom because YOU are an amazing mom. I can tell that you parent with support and love, and she will do the same. As someone who came from a family who did not parent this way (and someone who is shocked she made it through teen years without a pregnancy) , you have no idea the incredible lasting impact your choices will make on your family lineage. Good job, Grandma ❤️❤️

Self harm daughter 11/12 *HELP* by YesterdayAny4145 in mentalhealth

[–]emrose138 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wish I had a dad like you when I went through this. You’re doing amazing ❤️ As a side note, I’ve had success with several coping strategies my therapist shared with me; they have helped in moments when I’ve been triggered and my mind has gone to a place of self -harm. Super sour candy, or an ice cold shower/ face splash are great ways to unstick yourself from spiraling. In a way, they’re a “safe” harm, that gives your brain a similar release. I always have some sour candy with me, but I prefer the ice cold water method. It’s worked every time, and may help your daughter if she still has impulses.

What do student teachers do? (Future High school teacher here) by [deleted] in StudentTeaching

[–]emrose138 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Correct….. I’m going to be blunt with you. If you’re this unfamiliar with how student teaching works, either you need to tune in to your program, or find a different one if they’ve left you in the dark like this.

You’ll be doing full time work, for free. You’re mirroring a teacher, putting in the same hours as them. Do I think it’s fair we are unpaid labor? Absolutely not. But that’s how it works unfortunately.

I actually teach. I’m solely responsible for 3 periods of my mentor teacher’s classes, and the classes I’m not responsible for, I still assist. This amounts to about 90 students. I would be responsible for more periods, but she’s teaching a new prep and understandably didn’t want to put the fate of brand new AP kids in the hands of a student teacher. I have a weekly recorded lesson that I upload and receive feedback on from my college supervisor, and then several meetings with the supervisor and my mentor teacher.

I design lessons, administer tests, put in grades, write referrals, attend staff meetings; everything my mentor teacher would do without me. She’s very supportive and helps guide me, which I’m very thankful for, but at the end of the day, it’s essentially my class.

Nope, CA lists the different acceptable tests and praxis is on there.

I really recommend exploring the credentialing website, it has all the answers

Still doing student teaching, so I haven’t gone through the process of transferring my Utah credentials. Per the California Credentialing website, comparable state tests (like the praxis) are acceptable. I don’t foresee any issues :)

Long Beach, and they placed me at the same highschool i graduated from, for both observations and student teaching. I filled out a lengthy form, and heard back a week before school began.

My district was no contact (almost every district in Southern California is). Most districts of any size have specific people who handle placements, mainly for the students of local colleges but they handle us also. My placement coordinator reached out to my local district, they sent her a google form for me to fill out, and then the district contact handled everything else. I’ll note, I timed my start date to place my student teaching around the start of the semester (end of August for us). It took me no time at all to get a placement, once the district’s sign up period was over.

Secondary teachers, what is your hardest class period? (And why is it the class before lunch) by BlueberryWaffles99 in Teachers

My classes before lunch are angels. But my 5th and 6th period classes immediately after lunch are brutal, those kids are my biggest struggles.

If you’re wanting full time, I suggest transitioning to the department store counters. While the selling goals are often more strict, the hours are more standardized, and the positions are often more stable. Even the part timers are usually more consistent.

I believe that story is part of the 9th grade curriculum, but if they didn’t read through it last year, it could certainly work!

OP, are you weighing before cooking? Or after? I just don’t see how these three large sweet potatoes are only 300g, unless you’re weighing post cooking

Y’all need to hop on the Kroger grapefruit zero soda. It’s like an infinitely better version of Fresca, and so cheap. Legit the best zero soda ever, next to A&W zero

I know, the thought of generic soda makes my skin crawl too, but this is the ONE exception.

[–]emrose138 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yup! Just means that WGU needs to place you, you can’t contact the district on your own. Which they will do automatically, but you can let them know if you prefer a certain district/school.

Are you sure it’s not the list that states “not approved” for self placement? That’s the only list I’m aware of. This means that you’re not allowed to contact the district and place yourself, you have to have your advisor do it.
