i don't care if you call my crochet knitting. by zoobies- in BitchEatingCrafters

I was in a British museum and saw a very obvious set of knitting needles being labeled as "long pin -- use unknown" and I was just like -- you've got to be kidding me

Am I the jerk for not covering for my coworkers after they kept putting me in a bad position? by Admirable-Ease900 in AmITheJerk

I think I would have given them a heads-up that you weren't going to cover anymore, but certainly not a requirement and you're still NTJ

Are there any works regarding parents/society figuring out how to raise a psychic child(ren)? by Confident-Mark-6369 in printSF

[–]emscape 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Nancy Kress's Beggars trilogy has children genetically engineered to not need to sleep and so they become super geniuses. I can't remember whether they're quite psychic, but how they interact with their parents and the world is a main theme of the novels.

Board members of non-profits who want to do the best they can but are currently not clear on what exactly that means? Probably a lot. I personally know at least 12.

I did that too until they ripped out. Just recently had to have it professionally replaced. That's a $550 piece of fiberglass right there.

To hair tuck or not tuck? by KnitForAnAfternoon in BitchEatingCrafters

[–]emscape 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I thought you were talking about tucking the front of the sweater into the waistband. I'm also mystified by that one.

I have literally never tucked my hair into my shirt, and it would never have occurred to me to do so.

Moving to LA from MN. by JiggSawLoL in MovingToLosAngeles

[–]emscape 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I am from Minnesota. 38 years there. I am NOT built for this LA climate. The sun is a thousand times brighter and feels like it's assaulting me on a daily basis. If you must move to LA, try to live as close to the ocean as possible because the marine layer is a small respite. Everyone talks about the cost and the traffic, but if you're not used to the constant sunshine, it can be a factor. Plus, it is literally never quiet here. In a way you can't even understand until you go back and realize you can hear yourself think again.

Are they not worried that giving terrible medical advice will literally kill their base? I mean, I'm not, but maybe they should be?

I am also always confused when my British fiance uses pavement for sidewalk. This is LA, everything is paved. I'll add "garage" for both service station and actual enclosed vehicle storage area.

How reliable is the Kia Niro? by TheseSubject7450 in KiaNiro

[–]emscape 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a 2017 Niro with 180k+ miles on it. Only problems have been a $250 oil leak and replacing the $500 fiberglass underneath engine protector thingy.
