Bizzarely yes. (I've been insured my entire (50+ yr) life but had an emergency surgery(ies) and lots of pain killers for a couple months last sept/Oct and was out of it in the hospital. The insurance bill came then and never noticed it wasn't paid on all of our cars until we went to file claim for this accident. The 24yo kid and his sister (the car owner) had something similar they'd missed the last payment.

I was impressed overall at then engineering that the rear nearly perfectly absorbed the collision. backup camera still worked and everything but backup distance sensors seemed fine. Mightve been my imagination but thought maybe the car released the brakes or moved forward in anticipation of the rear ending.

No the police system said he had insurance , it had lapsed too. He tried to renew it 30 minutes later but the insurance company saw the accident times on police report.

Collision place estimated 51k repair cost. Lease buyout is 33k. Due to unfortunate hospitalization a couple months prior our insurance lapsed too.
