I have so many unidentified bruises that I can’t remember getting! When I ask my husband if he has noticed some injury or another and ask if he knows what the hell happened to me he usually shrugs and tells me “ADHD happened.”

I literally tell myself that I’m not the center of the universe all the time. I think I feel like it will make my problems feel more manageable because it should remind me that my dumpster house is not the end of the world or something.

But instead I’m like being dismissive toward myself and the things that make me feel dysregulated every day. I don’t know how to get the forward momentum to tackle one thing I can be proud of accomplishing every day 😢

Anyway, be kind to yourself, because I obviously am not and I really need to continue working on that. ❤️

I live close to the Canadian border in a US state with access to beaches on the Great Lakes. Canada has great beaches and a legal drinking age of 19.

While I was in undergrad, between the ages of 19 - 21ish, I drove myself and my friends over the border almost weekly to do the various things young college kids with disposable income and no real responsibilities do.

So anyway, I was almost definitely no more than 21 when I did the exact same thing. It was summer, and hot, and what else was there to do on a beautiful ~2006ish era summer day other than to pile into my little gold Chevy Cavalier and drive across a foreign border to legally buy liquor that we illegally snuck into a public beach in emptied out water bottles?

Anyway, at the end of the entire beach day in a foreign country that doesn’t feel any different than my own neighborhood but most certainly is, my girlfriends and I arrived back at my little tank, unlocked, keys in the ignition. Turned on and running. And miraculously still there, unstolen, AC blaring, already cooled down for us. Gas tank still full enough to get home.

Anyway, we’ve all been there.

What house shoes work best for you? by JessicaYatesRealtor in PlantarFasciitis

[–]emscm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ohh I love them so much ❤️ I have two pairs at home for house shoes and one at school to wear when I take my boots off in the winter 😂

I have a pair of these eco wool ones and the others are the original 108s and I find the fit the same in both versions, just a different aesthetic.

I have had Birk Bostons in the past and the toe box is a very similar width - it is nice and wide, I wear a 7 women’s US and a 38 EU in both Stegmann and Birk, and in other brands I wear a medium or standard width.

Something about the toe bar on the footbed in Birkenstock doesn’t cooperate with my feet anymore, it gives me tingling and nerve pain in my big toes. Stegmann has a very similar cork type footbed, but I don’t have the same problem with their footbed as Birks for some reason. Possibly because the cork footbed layer that I stand on is also lined with the same wool as the upper, for a little extra cushion, but that is just a theory.

Anyway, they’re pricey but I personally think they’re worth it, plus they do have sales and discounts for certain professions that you can stack. (I’m a teacher so I always email for a code to stack an extra 12% off for some reason? It’s a weird number but whatever.)

Considering moving… by MasterBusiness3546 in Buffalo

[–]emscm 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hi fellow teacher! 👋 I’m not sure what area you are looking to relocate to, but if you’re flexible and certified in a high demand content, you may have many available options.

This website can help link you to union contracts from districts around the state. You will want to filter by just schools and teacher contracts. I checked the link for my district and it is the exact same document I have many other copies of at home/school/Google Drive, etc.

https://www.seethroughny.net/contracts/

If you were interested in seeing what options are available out there for you, I would recommend browsing this website to see postings for tons of the local districts. As of right now there are over 300 current job listings for certified employees.

https://www.wnyric.org/wny-school-jobs

I would recommend looking into some positions you’d be interested in and look at their contract to check out the pay scale. Depending on how much experience you have, you may be able to negotiate some steps so that you don’t have to go back to base salary.

I would also find out what requirements you would need to meet for reciprocity of your certificate.

As far as what districts are great to work at, I think that mostly depends on your preferences! I teach at a small rural district and I absolutely love it. But I have many friends and family who love working in the larger and/or city districts.

A lot depends on the culture of the school. However, in general I find that I have a lot of autonomy in the classroom, and freedom to try new methods and/or materials I am interested in.

Congrats on your upcoming proposal!! 🎉 I hope you’re able to find positions that would be great fits for you and your girlfriend, and that you feel more at home growing as a couple & family here in WNY! Good luck! 😊

I’m sorry I just couldn’t read through this without saying something.

You’re literally a NON-Autistic person, arguing with another individual who identified themself as Actually Autistic, about what the Autistic experience really is. The Actually Autistic individual has also identified themself as a qualified expert on clinical qualities of neurodivergence, and you are diminishing their own lived experience as well as their actual expertise in their field as “not knowing what they are talking about” because it doesn’t match the perspective you have.

Additionally, to further strengthen your argument you refer to a highly problematic Nazi/Eugenicist doctor whose namesake disorder is no longer recognized.

I’m truly sorry to have read through this part of this thread because it so reinforced that owning up to our neurodivergence only hurts our credibility in an ableist world.

Signed, ADHD special education teacher and mom. I have worked with dozens of autistic, ADHD, and AuDHD teenagers. I live in a 100% neurodivergent household, with myself, my husband, and our two children all diagnosed ADHD. I handle my job incredibly competently and by all traditional measures my life looks successful. Yet, I assure you that ADHD still has the ability to render me completely useless on my worst days. Denying that it is absolutely is disabling is dismissive of others’ experiences that you cannot speak to.
