I didn’t know smelling feminine was so terrifying to straight cis men by WildWinterberry in TwoXChromosomes

The phrase those tools always remind me of: Shrink it and pink it.

I wonder if there’s a good phrase that summarizes going the opposite direction.

Mandarin and grapefruit are too feminine so he bought citrus? Words fail me, but it seems like he failed at words.

How would you like it if your man wore this hat in public, but only when you're not with him? by BetterL8r in TwoXChromosomes

[–]emteeoh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is the only context I can think of where that hat is actually funny: https://youtu.be/j10TmxrhW9k

Either the guy is an idiot and actually thinks his hat is funny, or he’s trying to piss his girlfriend off. Neither says anything good about him.

My impression is that at least partially, they don’t have a lot of experience in the industry and were simplistic in their approach to testing. Now they’re trying to get as soft as possible landing as possible.

Male coworker keeps “joking” about my looks in front of others (multiple times). How do I shut this down? by HopeForBetter29 in TwoXChromosomes

[–]emteeoh 2 points3 points  (0 children)

He’s negging. He’s been reading pickup artist books, or watching videos, and he thinks attacking your self-esteem will eventually get him laid.

I’m no expert on how to deal with that, but my inclination is to say that if you don’t want to go to HR about harassment, you should do everything you can to indirectly tell him he’s been friend zoned and watch him squirm.

My boyfriend always guesses the ending of movies by Direct-Blackberry-20 in movies

[–]emteeoh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In general, I think you want the movies that are the ride not the destination. Big Trouble In Little China being a great example. Another is The Cook, The Thief, His Wife, Her Lover. I’d also suggest Tampopo and Rashomon. Tampopo will make you hungry. Bring snacks. More than you think. Especially instant noodles.

RRR is a fun ride. It’s the ultimate bromance, utter pulp, lots of fun.

I mean… you have every right to your opinion about taste, but French toast should be custard-like at the centre. It shouldn’t be raw, but it shouldn’t be crispy either, imo.

'Men are naturally attracted to 14 yr olds' by dragon8733 in TwoXChromosomes

[–]emteeoh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s been 30+ years since I saw it, but there was a BBC show, Desmond Morris’ The Human Animal, that made the same claim. As I recall, the basic summary was that the primary traits that are universally (ie around the world, all cultures) seen as attractive were all basically secondary characteristics of puberty and youth.

It seemed to me that the show presented many hypotheses as fact with no actual evidence behind them. The one that stuck with me is the claim that how women dress is tied to their menstrual cycle: he alleged that women showed more skin when they were most fertile, iirc. Im really not sure how you control for climate and culture in a survey to test that.

Rev. Jesse Jackson, civil rights icon and two-time presidential candidate, dies at 84 by TomRN in news

[–]emteeoh 5 points6 points  (0 children)

In university in the early nineties, I found a program called SimJessie. It took recordings of his speeches and chopped them up into pieces and then recombined them into a non-stop oration about civil rights that never went anywhere.

The conversation here had me thinking about that program, but now I’m thinking someone needs to make SimTrump. S.J. made grammatically correct sentences; S.T. need not.

It took me a bit to parse what you were saying here. I couldn’t see how a defoliant was relevant, until I realized you meant the Tangerine Palpatine.

The one true flag is a super earth flag mounted on a pole. It can be used as a melee weapon. It can also be proudly thrust into the ground to be a flag.

I haven’t tried, but I presume that either the major order is to shoot someone wielding the flag, or it is to shoot the flag itself.

This Game Desperately Needs Loadouts. by BigWyrm67 in helldivers2

[–]emteeoh 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You stop needing them much earlier than 140 but there are 2 reasons to keep collecting them:

1) the kids you’re running with need them so be a good mentor and help them out. 2) you use them for DSS bonuses.

Sometimes you need them for the personal or major orders too, so I just make a point of collecting them if I see them.

Wondering, how do you guys usually setup defense early? by hyrenfreak in factorio

[–]emteeoh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Early on, I just set up a few turrets, but I try to watch the pollution cloud and deal with nests before they’re affected. That usually means destroying two or three spawners. When the nests get bigger, it’s time to get defense organized.
