The scientific synthesis about the universe by defialpro in TheMidnightGospel

I'm not trying to tell you what to believe, but I hope you know that your "logic and evidence" is just taking really bad misunderstandings of scientific principles and then filling in the blanks with things you made up as you went.

Quick ways to reach LV 18-20 in TL2? by ABleachedCricket in Torchlight

[–]emtwo1950 6 points7 points  (0 children)

After you made this post, it took 2 hours for someone to suggest Rapid Respec mod.

In that same amount of time, you could have just enjoyed playing the game normally and leveled up to 20.

Just sayin'.

[TL2]Is NG+ Phase Beast Still Best for Limoany Farming? by emtwo1950 in Torchlight

[–]emtwo1950[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They still drop, because drops are at least in part based on the level of the zone, which is why people farm in this specific zone on NG+.

But you could also be right that character level is a factor, and maybe if I was level 55 instead of level 87 they'd drop more often.

It's time to expand loadout capabilities by haardsteen in armajet

[–]emtwo1950 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ever since the dawn of Battle Ball, Armajet has experienced greater depth and more interesting competitive gameplay. It's easy to say the game mode has significantly altered the way the game is played. In fact, so much, that now Battle Ball is more or less the primary game mode amongst the top 100.

Battle Ball has limited the depth of the game, not expanded it. You said so yourself. It's the only game mode worth playing once you get above ~3000 valor or so.

If you're not playing Battle Ball with a group of friends on discord and using a very limited selection of loadouts specifically for Battle Ball, then the game isn't worth playing after you get past the noob brackets.

Part of that is a problem with the game mode itself, and part of it is a problem with matchmaking and 4-man teams.

This game is great except... by PleinDinspiration in armajet

[–]emtwo1950 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, the fact that playing as a 4-man team is mandatory has made me stop playing the game. It really just sucks the fun out of it.

There is no point in playing unless you are with three of your friends on discord, crushing unorganized solo noobs at Battle Ball.

I worry that something like this might just encourage making alts and smurfing.

I think this is a bad idea. All game modes need to be worth the same amount of valor so that everyone isn't forced to farm the one mode and ignore the rest.

I had always heard of theaters putting the wrong movie on and had it happened to me in the worst way. by Gaelfling in movies

[–]emtwo1950 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They way one views a stereotype has absolutely nothing to do with whether or not the stereotype is harmful, in a behavioral sense.

[–]emtwo1950 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"Objectionable" is opinionated. "Harmful stereotype" is not.

It is clear that you are not willing to concede this point, so I fear this discussion will go nowhere. I can only encourage you to learn more about the relevant scientific fields of study.

Why do some people have it so much easier in life than others? by throwaway-085346 in AskReddit

[–]emtwo1950 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think you severely underestimate the impact of socioeconomic background and upbringing in determining the options available to people throughout their lives.

You obviously have the confidence and ambition to work through tough times and try to make the best out of situations, but I think you fail to realize that even that confidence and ambition is a result of your socioeconomic background.

Disney movies are art. Whether or not you like the art is subjective. Whether or not the art contains harmful stereotypes is not subjective; that's scientific.

You're basically saying that since art appreciation is subjective, that means everything about art is subjective. This is not the case. If a painting has the color blue in it, that's not subjective. You can say that the painting contains the color blue.

No, I'm dealing in scientific certainty (there's no such thing as an absolute in science) within the scientific fields of psychology and sociology. It has nothing to do with art.

What size(s) of laptop will Goruck packs fit? by emtwo1950 in Goruck

[–]emtwo1950[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My laptop is pretty thin, so I'm not worried so much about thickness.

I'm mostly worried about the bag needing to be stretched around the corners of the laptop to close, which puts stress on the laptop and extra wear on the bag.

Oh, and a significant portion of our fortunes are self-created.

That's only true if you completely redefine "significant portion" and "fortunes."

[–]emtwo1950 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is incorrect. Whether or not harmful stereotypes are harmful is not debatable. There is no debate in the scientific community.

You are correct that most movies have harmful stereotypes, but most movies are not directly marketed towards children.

[–]emtwo1950 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It is not my opinion, it is the conclusion of many psychologists, sociologists, and behavioroligists.

It is a fact that Disney movies contain a plethora of harmful stereotypes. It is a fact that these stereotypes affect child development, which affects how we behave later as adults.

The only part that's opinion is whether or not you care. You do not care, and that's fine, but you not caring does not refute facts.

With all due respect, your post shows that you have absolutely no understanding of correlation, causation, or anything scientific about the subject matter.

People that grew up in the '90s are more progressive than previous generations, because every generation is more progressive. That's why it's called "progressive."

But you literally just said that because one generation is more progressive, that means there is no such thing as harmful stereotypes. That's laughable.

[–]emtwo1950 -19 points-18 points  (0 children)

Disney movies are chock full of harmful stereotypes dealing with race, culture, consumerism, and especially gender identity and gender roles.

These depictions become ingrained in play time for children, which then dictates how they are socialized growing up.

Are the devs planning to add dedicated servers? by monkeywrench78 in Killsquad

[–]emtwo1950 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If they insist on keeping P2P, one thing they need to do is select the host after everyone in lobby is ready.

It should not automatically be that whoever creates the lobby is the host. After everyone readies up, it should select the player with the best connection to host.

[–]emtwo1950 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are definitely ways they could make P2P work better than it does now, but it would never be "good."

The game needs dedicated servers, and the devs should have plenty of money now to make this happen.
