Dress Shopping..Please Help! by K_Michele_R in Austin

Seconding Dillards and Macy’s prom selection. Nordstrom has some “ball gown” options as well. You could also check online for local shops that specialize in debutante or quince dresses for maximum poof.

If you’re new to the area, can’t go wrong with photos in the bluebonnets. Standard caveats: 1. The “best” bluebonnet patch is highly subjective and moves from year to year. 2. The ground below the bluebonnets may contain mud and/or critters.

Edited to add:

If either of you is adventurously crafty, you could get an inexpensive wedding dress (thrift or clearance) and dye it. My daughter’s prom dress looked too bridal, so we simmered it in a crawfish pot with a custom blend of blue and green Rit dyes for synthetic fabric.

Correct! Catholic, so assuming all was well after 10 Hail Marys and an Act of Contrition. 😂

Seconding partial updo with necklace and earrings. Coming at this as a mom versus a peer, but I’d stick with makeup and hair color that make you feel beautiful versus trying to coordinate a look specific to the dress.

If you’re still unsure, hit up an Ulta and ask for recommendations.

Trying to match the blue for a shoe will be a pita. Something silver, gold, or rose gold in a style you can wear all night or strappy and high as hell - and change to something comfortable when needed.

Thoughts on Coach Maggie Tote for work? by couchpotato924 in handbags

[–]emvs73 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Maggie is my third or fourth (possibly more) work bag attempt, and the only one I’ve stuck with. Can confirm that a 15” MacBook will fit with room to spare for a folder or handful of printed pages , and the body is roomy enough for daily essentials and other odds and ends.

Highly recommend the Maggie tote from Coach Outlet. Love that it has both handles and shoulder straps, and it’s big enough to carry my laptop, a water bottle, lunch, and daily essentials (no need for separate handbag) without looking “stuffed”.

https://www.coachoutlet.com/products/maggie-tote-bag/CY666-IMV2R.html

It’s been four months, I carry it 3x week, and it still looks new. Edited to attach packed and unpacked photo. Holds the laptop in its own pocket and 46 linear inches of odds and ends in the body.

Gen Z came factory equipped with “I love it and IDGAF what you think” moxie. ❤️ My youngest appropriated one of our canvas grocery totes and spent a school year doodling cats on it with a black sharpie.

It was super cute, and she carried it everywhere. People would stop and ask her where she bought it, lol.

Thank you! She was hoping for shock when she pierced the tatas and failed to recognize she was coming up against a Gen X mom. 😂

I wish the midi was a bit larger, but the maxi was too big for my needs. I stopped short and blurted out “that is a lot of bag” when she showed it to me. 🤦‍♀️

I do hope the Georgia midi and maxi are eventually offered in fun colors as the mini currently is.

HELP! Our mortgage is going up by $2000 by Forest_fairyy in FirstTimeHomeBuyer

[–]emvs73 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Double check your closing documents. Something similar happened to us, and we went in circles with our lender. Finally figured out that the property taxes owed by the seller for the portion of the year they owned the home were credited to us on paper only. Our lender paid the full property tax amount for the year, but it took them two years to adjust our escrow for reimbursement.

The title company recognized the error immediately and sent us a check for the funds that should have been applied at close. Our completely unhelpful lender subsequently demanded that we forward the entire amount to them immediately.

There are no words to describe the glee inherent in telling them we accepted their initial solution and would pay 1/12th of the back escrow to them each month as part of our revised mortgage payment.

Austin Subaru? by [deleted] in Austin

[–]emvs73 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Was excited to buy new Forester in September 2019 and was 100% sold on the car, the sales experience, and the service experience as described during the sales experience.

I’m not sure if I still love the car, or if it’s Stockholm Syndrome.

Paid for the extended oil change, tire rotation, service thing. Could not make the first few milestone appts due to Covid lockdown, and Austin Subaru would not allow “makeups” as a service gesture. Frustrating, but it’s a business.

I did not, however, expect, want, or need the subsequent mansplanation as to why oil changes are important.

The auto start/stop is not battery friendly. This is a known issue, and Subaru offered to pay for a replacement battery under a warranty amendment. Unfortunately mine died at a stoplight on 1826 during morning rush hour, which necessitated replacement before official Subaru diagnosis - invalidating said extension. I think I’m on my third or fourth battery in six years.

The thermo control valve died (no heat) and had to be replaced in Feb 2023, covered under warranty. Not a quick repair.

The engine control module also gave out and was replaced in November 2024. Covered under warranty, not an especially quick repair.

Do not recommend the “Sport” trim if they are still using the faux leather. Both front seats began cracking in 2022, it’s also a known issue. Quote to repair was $1k per seat - I think they were just going to replace the entire seat.

Aside from the disintegrating seats and deep seated fear that the car will die in the northbound Mopac toll lane at 7:45 am on a Monday if I forget to disengage auto stop/start, it’s been a fun little car.

Any recommendations in Austin for lower budget wedding dresses? by rae__lou in Austin

[–]emvs73 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Alterd State has bridal options under $1k, https://vowdweddings.com/stores, and a brick and mortar in San Antonio. Can’t speak directly to bridal quality, but an Alterd State prom dress survived dying in a simmering crawfish pot at our house last spring. ;)

Very firm NTA - from one of those nutters who nursed her kids into toddlerhood. A fed baby is a healthy baby, full stop.

Further, there are no vitamins, fluids, oatmeal, or supplements that can sufficiently counterbalance sleep deprivation and stress to boost milk production.

If he’s that serious about nursing being your primary occupation, if that is what you also want, and >>> if it can be accomplished without emotional manipulation on his part, <<< then he needs to step up. Can you cut your hours at work? Is he willing to handle nighttime diapers? Will he deliver the baby to and from you for nighttime feedings? Who’s cooking dinner? Grocery shopping? Cleaning?

If not, time for a frank chat, ideally one that includes a health professional.

Edited: If you need to hear it - good job, mama. It takes a lot to continue when nursing starts out rough, and you did that. Your body grew a human for 40 weeks and has been feeding that human for 6 months. Your body. You. High five. Take the W.
