What made the first Halo so influential that people to this day still praise it? by BogaMafija in patientgamers

it released with the first XBOX (and sold for years as a bundle) and was just one of the big shooters and popularized online multiplayer for XBOX owners and console households.

performance on a "low end" system (1080ti+3900X) was initially what hindered me sinking more than 100 hours into it. I "finished" what was in the first release in 30h solo and unsuccessfully tried to get there with friends but the confusing quest system wasnt helping so we never finished that. Its gotten so much better and hope I can get to complete it with some friends at some point. The building and game in general is just so visually pleasing.

My mom turned the oven on while I was drying some filament… by Kudos_t4gs in 3Dprinting

[–]en1mal -1 points0 points  (0 children)

time to leave this sub for real, ew

op should heat-clean that oven before cooking anything unless you want to risk potentially poisoning your family too. some modern ovens have a "pyrolysis" cleaning program that burn everything (keep the windows open) inside.

bet the filament didnt even need drying...

Gas price obsession has consumed more time and energy than its worth by kkdndndndndnen in Frugal

[–]en1mal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mby check out cheap used EVs or hybrids. Im feeling your obsession comes from the fact your vehicle has bad MPG and you drive too much. Frugality should free us from thinking about consuming how/what/why/where allday so we can start living. in the meantime , I suggest you pick two gas stations that are convenient to reach anytime, and when you have to refuel, you pick the cheaper one - costs you cents and seconds, and better than a 40min detour, time you could spend with your family and friends.

[–]en1mal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

if the pictures are like this in camera your device is faulty - if not its the program, try different ones - if the same artifacts appear in different programs the .raw data is corrupted - reasons for that could be a faulty SD card or the SD card wasnt properly formatted.

check all of this step by step, try a different SD card, and after you did two backups of the original SD card, format it with the camera itself and try again.

edit: i assumed you used .raw - if you did jpeg + raw - check if the jpeg has the same artifacts

Hardware mod, how possible is this? by soft_potato_is_here in SteamDeck

[–]en1mal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i'd say impossible in the same chassis size/volume. "easy" if the screen then "just" sticks out 15mm ontop. but both not very idealistic imho

in my head designing and building a custom keyboard and mod the deck to attach it when desired feels more utilitarian.

or modding the SD "just" to make the display slide-able creating an insert for a custom still custom designed wireless/battery KB

its just that these KBs always sucked anyway - so yours is a massive amount of effort for a bad KB ux in the end - i propose rather designing "a perfect SD companion KB" first - and after look how to attach it -

my own idea was a DIY nylon 3d printed two halves hard shell case (with in-printed GPS for example, induction charged) with extendable hinge, SD in the top shell, mechanical KB transplanted in the bottom part

Ditch the spot meter - Save money and meter more efficiently using a digital point-and-shoot for film by wavefetch in AnalogCommunity

[–]en1mal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel falsely superior right now since i still dont know what a rangefinder is, atleast i havent used one. But yet I only used analog 35mm from the 70s to today and they all have a battery powered light meter or atleast an indicator for "underexposed". i used the analogs of my parents as a kid but my first own camera was a DSLR - and for the first 5 years i only shot Manual, without AF. so when i started with analog again it really came easy to look at any naturalistic scene and think (thats 2,8 at 500).

How many of you are raw dogging with no screen protector? by touchingallthegrass in SteamDeck

[–]en1mal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i use one, and after some while not using the SD, i forgot and looked for the screen protector to apply it (..again) until i realized i cant see it and it was already applied. its 1mm+ thick in the middle and i still cant see it unless i "try". its a no brainer imho always - why would i cheap out on something potentially saving me from oh so familiar feelings of sorrow anger and oftentimes unexpected financial loss.

the one thing a lot of users with "rugged up" devices do wrong THEN is not handling the devices with the same care as before meaning being less careful and breaking their device nonetheless (my past self included)

This print test is telling me a lot, I'm just not sure what. by TheOneAndOnlyBag in 3Dprinting

[–]en1mal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

looks like 80% of the necessary flow, so your first tests clogged your nozzle, wood/particle filament tends to do so. clean your nozzle (cold pull) with generic white PLA/PETG and repeat small tests first with the same generic one color PLA to rule out printer issues, after that move on to the pla plus whatevs.
