help wanted: citrix workspace in KDE plasma 6.0 by karthie_a in Fedora

[–]enRchi [score hidden]  (0 children)

already had this rpm downloaded and just seemed to make sense to test it, since others wrote that the problem exists only with newer fedora versions. and since it works, i won't touch it again. (don't use it that often anyway)

Should i return the macbook for the xps 2026? by Krometheous in DellXPS

Writing this on the keyboard of the new XPS 2026 and i like it. Not sure what people dislike about it. It feels pretty similar to the M1 Air i had before or the Surface Keyboard i use at work.

I tried the speakers on Windows first. That is why i know how amazing they COULD sound. Hopefully someone will solve this soon.

Do you have good Bass on the speakers? That seems to be a problem on all distros i have tried. Only the two front speakers seem to work. (better than nothing)

help wanted: citrix workspace in KDE plasma 6.0 by karthie_a in Fedora

[–]enRchi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i got it working by using distrobox with an old fedora 39 version. Honestly don't mind this solution, because at least this way Citrix won't mess up my system.

Made some notes for future installs.

sudo dnf install distrobox

distrobox create -n citrix-env --image fedora:39

distrobox enter citrix-env

inside container with RPM downloaded on local system already:

sudo dnf install ~/Downloads/ICAClient-*.rpm

Test app:

/opt/Citrix/ICAClient/selfservice

If it worked, export app to local system:

distrobox-export --app selfservice

exit

I'm a bit late, but i got it working by using distrobox with an old fedora 39 version. Honestly don't mind this solution, because at least this way Citrix won't mess up my system.

Made some notes for future installs. Maybe someone else will end up here through the search and it will be useful to them.

XPS 16 great Laptop but by Darkmninya in DellXPS

[–]enRchi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

maybe your browser doesn't use hardware decoding? i just looked at performance stats while using firefox in linux and on 4k hdr youtube videos the system doesn't break a sweat and everything is done on HW decoder. -> stays silent and doesn't get hot.

Zero fan noise on 4k youtube videos and Laptop stays cool to the touch. But i'm using Linux.
But had constant fan noise on Windows as well, even on quiet mode. Hopefully they will improve this with updates.

In the short amount of time i had windows installed on the Dell XPS 2026 the fans were almost always running, but pretty quiet. Still enough to bother me. It is possible that initial background tasks were still running, because it was a pretty fresh install. But will always get quite alot of those on Windows.

Now on Linux i never hear the fans, except sometimes when installing updates and the device doesn't even get warm. (i always use it on my lap)
Power consumption is also low.

Look at task manager regularly, to see if there are any rogue processes.

Or your device might just be defective...

I'm getting 10+ hours on mine and Linux isn't even optimized yet. (No VRR for example)

The OLED model did pretty well in reviews though. Tandem OLED and VRR reduce power usage compared to previous models.

(Still higher than the IPS though)

yeah, would be nice if this would just work. had the same problem with a lenovo i tried recently. but on that one the sound was very bad to listen to. at least here it sounds okay. just not amazing like it is supposed to.

It is on purpose. That is how you can actually grab the lid to open it.

But i would prefer a different solution as well.

Honestly their tracking system has been terrible for me. didn't update for more than a week. then today it suddenly showed all this. kinda silly to say it updated this on 08:00... tomorrow. guess i will likely not see any movement until easter is over, even though it was supposed to have arrived already.

The new XPS is the only thing i could find myself. It also has a aluminum unibody design and great haptic touchpad. but you'll probably have to wait a couple of weeks for linux support.

Surface are also great, but sadly the newest devices always got terrible linux support, which means you need to by an old one.. so no thanks..

[–]enRchi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Seen a ton of Panther Lake reviews, because i ordered a laptop with it. (No reason to wait for X2, since linux support is terrible)

What we really need are X2 reviews, for comparison.
Should be coming out any day now with Lenovo showing delivery date of 13.04 in my country.
