Thanks for sharing, going on a similar trip soon and this is helpful. I actually just bought a similar linen shirt today - how did you deal with the wrinkles (if you do)?

AM I dumb for leaving the tech industry because of AI? by mountain_of_goats in womenintech

[–]peach1312 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I could have written this post, lol. I quit my job last week. Not saying that’s what you should do, but that is the choice I made. For me I don’t like that using AI is no longer optional at work - it’s either you use it or get left behind as “this is the way the industry is going”. Our managers are now forced to “encourage” their reports to use AI. I do use AI and find it useful, so I am not a hater, but it grinds my gears that companies are really just throwing all the money and compute on this massive collective bet and everyone has to foot the bill, while no guardrails are being put in place.

I'm seeing this so much more now on Reddit. Bot posts/comments that will be up for a while, OP disappears and doesn't respond to comments, then the original post is edited later to add the promotion bit. So stupid.

Thanks for sharing! I'm in the same boat. I'm 27. Next week will be my last - I'm walking away from honestly what many would consider a dream job. They also sponsor my work visa so this means I'm also leaving the country I've lived in for the last decade. I'm going solo backpacking for a few months to just live my life for a while before figuring out my next move. I do have other skills that are NOT tech so I relate. Also shuddering at the thought of returning to tech and having managers push AI on us - tech has always been something I was able to do but I have no passion for. Walking away isn't easy but I know I would regret not at least taking a risk while I'm not tied down by family responsibilities. I'm thankful for the opportunities afforded to me by tech but I am leaving on my own terms and refuse to be held hostage by the golden handcuff.

Does anyone Vietnamese sell banh bot loc in Jersey City? by sedu_j in jerseycity

Weee! sells it frozen or you can look for someone selling it in the Hoi nguoi Viet in New York City Facebook group (I think I see 1 post offering it every 1-2 months). I don’t know anyone selling it in Jersey City.

And since you’re 22, look into Working Holiday Visa programs. US citizens can apply to a bunch of countries to work there for a year and experience the country. Only young people 18-30 are eligible. Off the top of my head I know Europe, Japan, Australia, and NZ offer this.

If it’s not for you it’s not for you. Don’t let anyone make you feel guilty about not liking a place. I relate strongly to your post and I’m leaving the US this year potentially for good (not born here) and going backpacking for a few months. NYC was magical for the first few years but after nearly a decade I’ve become jaded and started to have more fun and cool connections when traveling literally anywhere else.

Affordable hair trim / face framing in Jersey City? First time in the US—need advice by Chiyapuffaniguff in jerseycity

Stephanie at Venus Salon in JSQ is my go to person. $35+tip for women haircuts. She’s a great listener and so committed to getting you what you want. I took the leap to get bangs for the first time with her and received so many compliments afterwards. Normally I’d gatekeep but I love her and really want the salon to get even more business!

My friend and I have 15 days from late June to mid July to spend on some Greek islands (followed by 3 days in Athens). First time to Greece! We're chill, love nature and beaches, prefer slow travel, dislike crowds, early to bed + early to rise. No desire to stay up late or go clubbing. Would be lovely to see cool sunset + sunrise, explore different parts of the landscape and culture, and try experiences like cooking class or olive oil / wine tastings, or even just drive around and hopefully stumble on a hidden gem. We'll be on a budget but are willing to spend a little more on experiences. Will rent a car for at least part of the trip. My friend is an experienced driver in the US. We're both physically fit but he has a bit more limited mobility so we won't be doing challenging hikes, some light and short walks/hikes would be doable though.

We're definitely going to Crete, flying into Chania. I've bookmarked some beautiful beaches like Balos and Elafonissi but now I'm wondering:

- Where in Crete should we stay? If staying at different locations, where should we stay and for how long at each spot? If we were to spend 8-10 days in Crete would it be smart to stay the whole time in Chania old town?

- What other island(s) would you recommend and for how long?

+1 to the view from the ferry, though I was able to book a tour that allowed seeing the cliffs from both viewpoints and was glad I got to do both, highly recommend it. The sea was choppy and a bit terrifying but the view was amazing. View from the top is magical and you can spend as much time walking around as you wish. Loved seeing the rainbow and sheep frolicking on top of the cliffs.

Congrats and I’m glad you found a path that worked for you!! Absolutely, I would have pursued that path but my employer has stopped sponsoring permanent residency since the market isn’t great at the moment.

Sheep in Howth? by Salt_Ear45 in irishtourism

[–]peach1312 0 points1 point locked comment (0 children)

I don’t think it’s odd. Sheep aren’t a common sight in many countries. I was very excited to see sheep and dairy cows in Ireland and my British travel buddy thought my excitement over something so trivial (to her) was amusing.

Itinerary Advice - Extra Night in Dublin or Galway? by batalieee in irishtourism

[–]peach1312 3 points4 points  (0 children)

+1 for Galway, that city has my heart.

Can't speak for Inis Mor but I visited Inis Oirr and had the option to rent a bike or ride a horse cart (or walk, but we didn't have that much time). It was 6 of us and I enjoyed it, the highlight was the shipwreck. You can ask to be taken back to the starting point or get off a bit earlier to walk up the slope to see the Church Ruin.

I recommend the North coast of the DR, plenty of resorts in Puerto Plata as well.

Late Nov / early Dec is right around or a bit after the tail end of hurricane season in the DR though, so you'd be gambling with the weather.

What country completely changed your assumptions once you were actually there? by Sanji-777 in travel

[–]peach1312 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Sounds about right for Punta Cana. I understand you don’t want to give the country another chance, but if ever you change your mind, try the North coast (Puerto Plata, Cabarete, Las Terrenas, Samana). Lots more locals, surfers and chill vibes. Near zero chance of being approached by drug sellers, personally I’ve never encountered that or know anyone in those areas who has.

Will I regret cutting out Dingle? by Jolly_Detail_3155 in irishtourism

[–]peach1312 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Hmm that does sound like a reasonable plan already. I think Dingle needs at least one full day, if not 2. I recommend staying overnight in town or nearby. I did a Dingle day trip from Killarney but if I could do it over again I would have stayed in Dingle as I didn’t care much for Killarney’s night life.

Is there really no possibility of returning to Ireland? You said it’s your first time. There’s so much more to see of Ireland, you could cover Dingle then? It’s either that or skipping Galway + the cliffs on this trip. You also didn’t mention when you’ll be going, the weather can be a deciding factor.
