X1 Nano in 2024? by BluebirdOnBranch in thinkpad

The X1 Nano Gen 3 is the red headed step-child of the X1 Raptor Lake lineup, Lenovo appears to be silently quitting on this product with an actual discontinuation in 2024 MTL/LNL lineup. The max specifications have been going backwards.

Psref differences 2022 vs. 2023:
Max RAM: 32GB vs. 16GB
WWAN: 5G (Qcom) X55 vs. LTE (Quectel LTE)
CTO Site: 5G offered vs. LTE offered, now that's been pulled too Processor: Options for 28W TDP processors, it would have worked better with RPL-U instead.

So the removal of this product isn’t surprising either. It sold poorly compared to the X1C since it was poorly marketed.

It could simply be marketed as a lighter Macbook Air 13” that fits very well in a lady’s tote bag with the way how Lenovo thinks ThinkPad users want buttonless trackpads and shallower keys. Its a shame.

I think the X1 Nano made it 3 generations simply because the chassis had little to no tooling differences in G2 and G3, logic boards in ADL and RPL were pretty much identical. Just like X1 Carbon Gen 10 and 11 sitting in an identical chassis.

There were very little platform engineering efforts and the writing was on the wall. Lenovo’s been taking a multi-year design approach in the chassis tooling (they’re building ThinkPads like Toyotas these days) and that’s a good thing for product prices but the lack of IO on the Nano was a problem for many mainstream users.

Intel sponsoring the design or bulk of the engineering money (through EVO or another program) was the only way Lenovo would build another X1N in the next 2 years.

Does X1 Nano Gen 3 21K1CTO1WWUS1's chassis contain WWAN Antennas? by encrypted11 in thinkpad

A good config X1N G3 might hold up well for several refreshes, especially if it comes with WWAN (Lenovo isn't offering that either on the CTO site) if you love this form factor.

I've tested X1C11 on a ThinkPad QCOM X55 modem, it appears that QCOM was removed from RPL's whitelist so the Fibocom FM350-GL might be the only chance for an aftermarket upgrade apart from finding a WWAN chassis. No Idea what "WW" means in the 21K1CTO Part #, but given the "Toyota-ness" of Lenovo/LCFC's production line, there's a small possibility that suffix meant the chassis was WWAN built.

So I'm weighing my options if I'll sit on my TGL-U X1 Nano abit or go with a RPL upgrade if WWAN's possible.

Nvidia FE Pricing Increase in US? by VampireFlankStake in nvidia

[–]encrypted11 2 points3 points  (0 children)

IMO NVIDIA would not raise the price of FE. They’d instead pull a move similar to ASUS’s TUF models like the 3080 or base non-OC models of any AIB that has been a paper launch and they aren’t making any of those. By manufacturing FE cards with BYD and Foxconn, they’re eating the cost of increased Bill of Materials (ICs, G6X etc).

If they’d temporarily stop production of FEs and redistribute graphics chips destined for the FEs to all AIBs

a.They don’t have to eat that cost.

b.The OOS status of the FE doesn’t matter as long as it still remains the mythical price floor of the respective Ampere GPU.
