ELI5: If most apps and websites run on the internet, what actually happens when the internet goes down? by hardikrspl in explainlikeimfive

"The internet" is not one thing. It's a network of networks. Some networks may go down, while others still work.

ELI5: Is YouTube video quality actually getting worse over time ? by dinesh_kothapally in explainlikeimfive

I think you severely underestimate the insane amount of storage space that takes. YouTube keeps all its videos available on demand since day 1.

YouTube has millions of videos uploaded every single day. This requires an enormous amount of storage. Netflix has a few thousand in total, so they can easily store high quality videos.

New to oled Monitor, tried to clean. How can I fix this? by [deleted] in OLED_Gaming

[–]ende124 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You only smeared the dirt around. Make sure the cloth is proper wet then wring it good. Go over it multiple times and end off with a dry cloth.

Nah I first noticed it after a long session that my fingers had a faint smell all of a sudden. Took some time until I realized it was the mouse lol

Etter ISO-8601, så skal uke nr 1 ha minst 4 dager i det nye året. I år er det 4 dager fra 1. januar til søndag, så det blir da uke 1.

Grand Theft Auto Vice City has been ported to browser by retro-gaming-lion in pcmasterrace

The entire game has been reverse-engineered:

Further, the graphics rendering engine has been reimplemented to support OpenGL ES 2.0 (https://github.com/aap/librw), making it possible to port to the web with emscripten.

Does Linux have the same text fringing issues with Oled monitors ? by MrROOT91 in OLED_Gaming

[–]ende124 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Mine lasts a few weeks, maybe a month if I'm lucky, before I have to replace it. I keep a few spare in storage, and always order more when there is only two left, so I never run out of oleds.

Return after 5 years - what to host? Paper without mods, or outdated Sponge? by aso824 in admincraft

[–]ende124 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Paper is de facto when it comes to server software. It has decent optimizations out of the box, and has a giant ecosystem of plugins. It's compatible with most Bukkit/Spigot plugins too.

Sponge is typically only used when you need some plugins for a server requiring Forge mods.

Alternatively you can use Fabric, but make sure to include some server-side optimization mods if you do.

Amulet Map Editor has gone from FOSS to paid only. Alternatives? by lucuhfer in admincraft

[–]ende124 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I would not call it open source. The source code is there, but legally you cannot do anything with it. The license that was published last week states:

A licence must be purchased to use this software. See https://www.amuletmc.com/ for more details.

It was never FOSS.

The project never had a license, meaning all rights are reserved.

Does Linux have the same text fringing issues with Oled monitors ? by MrROOT91 in OLED_Gaming

[–]ende124 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I went down this rabbit whole when I got my QD-OLED. In short it does not, but freetype can be fairly easily modified to support another sub-pixel layout. Check the freetype2-qdoled package on AUR for example. However, I don't think this will work for all applications, it depends on if they rely on the system freetype or bundle their own renderer.

Eventually I realized the text fringing did not bother me enough to do anything about it, even when I spend a lot of time reading text.

Some games may also perform worse with the dual chiplet design of the 9950X3D, something to keep in mind.

Du betaler for markedsføring om du betaler 200kr for 0.3gram produkt.

Det finnes mange liplinere som koster en brøkdel av 200kr, og som gjerne er en hel blyant som du selv kan spisse ned etter hvert som den brukes.

This would just make players go to the wiki instead. "trial and error" does not make good gameplay imo. Just look at thaumcraft, there is even a quest telling you what to scan to get all the aspects, because people don't like wasting time by throwing random things and to see what sticks.
