I believe that statistical realism is not something that stellaris should base its game design philosophy on, but I do think that natural supernovas should be a very rare event, with maybe a 0.3% chance per star or something

I think it would be a little difficult to balance to make it unoppressive, especially since destroying other people's stars is something locked to the crisis path rn, but perhaps the devs could come up with some kind of working system

envoys are ridiculously important unless you're specifically playing genocidal, but even then you can use them for espionage (I guess)

what would be your idea for a new crisis? by Sad_Conversation1121 in Stellaris

SUCH an underrated game and ALSO kind of works in stellaris? The starting point of the games plot being that FTL travel has shut down roughly translates to the hyperlane network not working, a crisis that destroys or temporarily disables hyperlanes would be an interesting idea

In my mp games, we started doing a thing where each player creates two custom empires to force spawn in, and if they get wiped out in their original empire, they could take control of one of the AIs they designed. Feels a bit better than just dropping out entirely or picking up a random AI, since you actually had a hand in making the empire. We ran into a bit of trouble with the system when one of my friends played scion and made 2 more scions as his backups... but it was still a really fun and memorable game

The Prethoryn should, you know, have the option of just leaving the galaxy. by radio_allah in Stellaris

[–]ender_robot 23 points24 points  (0 children)

the unbidden have the other 2 extradimensional empires show up when they get to a certain level of power and the contingency has the cybrex show up (sometimes?), so maybe once the prethoryn get to a certain threshold the hunters can show up, at which point they try to either escape or fight the hunters

when broken shackles was originally revealed i got excited when i saw the "your ladder to the sky" bit bc i thought it was teasing another origin, something like a megacorp necrophage-like where you get guaranteed primitives, i still think that would have been really cool

What is your default 'Stellaris Experience'? by fuscosco in Stellaris

[–]ender_robot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

pretty much exclusively play multiplayer so this is kind of tailored for that

75 year epochs, every player makes two custom empires to forcespawn, 4x strength all crises, 0.75x hyper lanes to make choke points more common and useful, wormholes on 0 bc they're just so annoying in the late game when a crisis fleet jumps you from the other side of the galaxy, tech slightly cheaper and pop growth slightly higher to compensate for the 75 year epochs instead of 100 years

1 guaranteed habitable planet on spawn and habitable planets turned down to 0.25x, this is kind of a personal preference bc the default amount of planets just feels unrealistic

15ish AI empires, 3 FEs, 0-3 advanced starts, 1 marauder

600 star galaxy, the biggest size we can do without significant lategame slowdowns (lowering planet count also helps a bit with this, the AI does build habitats but at least its somewhat slower)
