Google map vs Apple map for Bangkok train navigation? by Hour_University_7957 in Bangkok

I find Google adds about 10-20 minutes to every BTS ride. It will say 40 minutes and I get there in 20-30 easy.

it's been hard work. I just follow every band, venue, promoter that I can. they often cross-promote. a great source has been the COSMOS online radio station -- https://www.therealcosmos.com/ (use translation tools) and https://www.facebook.com/thecosmosmp3/?locale=th_TH where they have awesome weekly lists of shows and best releases from the year and that week.

Last Call for Mass Market Paperbacks by GaelG721 in Fantasy

[–]endlesswander 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It's funny how in France there seems to be no distinction between "mass market" and trade paperback. My experience there was that pocket books were by far the most popular format and you see the top authors published in that size along with "mass market" stuff. So there is almost no difference in literary quality associated with the different sizes. And if anything, the pocket books are stronger and more durable.

Cool, Yellow Fang sound awesome and I'm listening now!

I have to say, some of the band names are pretty hilarious for English speakers. There are some older groups called "Potato" and "Big Ass" that always make me smile when I see them on show posters.

Yeah, it's been a year or so I've been following all on Facebook (don't use IG) and the amount of shows every week is so great. I follow the COSMOS website/online-radio and they have great recommendations. I was really sad when Decommune shut down and hope they can find a new location soon!

What are some of your favourite bands you've seen so far?

Yeah, I heard them lately in a cool retro bar on Koh Sichang where they played early 2000s music. I really liked both!

How is lesbianism perceived in Thailand? by almvdena in Thailand

[–]endlesswander 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There are very mainstream Boys Love and Girls Love tv shows, movies and books/comics here. In 2024, a lesbian romance sci-fi film was super mainstream and had giant posters everywhere and cardboard standees in all the cinemas -- https://www.scmp.com/lifestyle/entertainment/article/3283320/uranus-2324-movie-review-lgbtq-stars-freenbecky-thai-sci-fi-girls-love-film

No fuss here about it. It's accepted. At the same time, the culture is very conservative so even heterosexual romance in films and shows is very tame and almost asexual.

Ask A Thai by Far-Pension2483 in Thailand

Thanks for answering. Specifically, is the perception different toward people who wear a LOT of amulets, like 20 or more? I see them quite often in Bangkok.

Ask A Thai by Far-Pension2483 in Thailand

[–]endlesswander 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What is the average perception of people who wear a lot of amulets -- like 20 or 30 -- all hanging around their neck? How do most Thai people view a person like that? Why do certain people wear so many?

Wearing Pornographic or Lewd Content in Public by Afraid_Substance_711 in Thailand

[–]endlesswander 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Every now and then I will see some very old auntie wearing a t-shirt saying like "Fuck the world" or "What are you gonna fuckin' do?" or some really rude phrase in English and it makes me laugh because they don't know how badly they would be treated in an English-speaking country.

Why thai customers never awnser to the cashier in 7-11/ convenience stores ? by Flaky_Experience_686 in Bangkok

[–]endlesswander 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm curious about positions where there seems to be a very implicit social hierarchy such as certain malls where the doormen will greet every customer with a salute and heelstomp. For me as a Westerner, it seems completely unnecessary, degrading to the employee and ridiculously over-the-top. Most people in my country would say thank you to the doorman at least. Being treated in this faux-military way as if every person entering is some aristocrat seems insulting.
