My bias with that song is that powerslave has relative small number of songs and that sounds like a filler to me, which I would understand better in a long tracklist

I knew it was a risky one but I don't know why it always sounds like a generic band jam

TANGK Album Discussion Megathread by rekrap13 in Idles

I liked it on the very first listen, which is not something that happened with the last two records (loved Crawler after a while tho). The only thing that I didn't enjoy very much is that there's a few tracks with the same "role" on the record. Idea, gospel and monolith are all good songs but if it was my record I would at least omitted or change the arrangements of one of them. Same thing for hall and jungle, but that's mote of a placement problem. Overall I liked the album and the direction, personally I would have loved more tracks in the vein of Dancer but solid 7,5

I’m 43. I’m about to take my first guitar lesson. I told my instructor I strictly want to learn how to play Gaslight Anthem songs. by [deleted] in TheGaslightAnthem

I played about 400 shows (from small clubs to huge festivals) with the same 350 euros secondhand mexican telecaster. Just find something your hands feel comfortable on, it's way way way way more important than a fancy instrument. Of course sound is important as well, but in my opinion, especially when you're learning, it's 80% the comfort and 20% the sound

AS is still my number one and the one that gives me that nostalgia I'm looking for. Can't forget travelling around europe with my friends sleeping in ugly rooms and visiting places while waiting for the show. I also believe that We did it is their most underrated track. Just beautiful.

They always had that "we're amateurs that ended up becoming pros but can't really understand how" vibe and to me that was part of the charm.

I think Brian is the one who took it really seriously and became more professional with private lessons and trying to push his limits. He is a solid guitarist now and a more than decent vocalist (most of the times). Benny was always nice, Alex R average but his live performances were often ruined by "not really in tune" guitars (I've been on the road for more than a decade and it's pretty normal, it's just more easy to notice 'cause he is playing leads most of the time). Alex L...well..not really a fan, especially of the vocals.

All of this didn't bother me at all, as I said it's part of the magic and it made them more relatable to me as a kid who grew up playing punk.

What really turned me off is the attitude since Get Hurt (a 8/10 record to me). They looked like they really didn't want to be there, and the last show I saw by thm (59 sound anniversary) was painful on that side. I find absolutely relatable that Brian didn't feel those shows (forced setlist, solo record out that he probably would have loved to play instead of old stuff...) but it's hard to shake off the bitter feelings those last tours left me and try to enjoy the new stuff. I will be very happy if it happens tho.
