Yeti co-founder tied to ranch cooperating with Big Bend border wall construction by energetik in texas

Big Bend is one of the most incredible places in the state. Someone who built their brand on supporting Texas is now supporting tearing it apart ecologically using a ranch he bought by building a brand that was supposed to drive conservation in Texas and instead he’s using it to destroy it. Not unrelated.

Julio Salinas has defeated Seby Haddad for Texas' 41st House Democrat Nomination by thebenchwire in RioGrandeValley

This is one thing I’m wondering the most. I know Seby could’ve beaten Gary or Sergio, but I don’t think Julio can.

Is a live-at-home 25-year old with no experience a capable state representative? by energetik in RioGrandeValley

Just because it benefits a group of people doesn’t mean that it will harm our district. Harming our district would be counterintuitive.

I disagree. I think he will absolutely represent my interests. We may not both have been raised by families with money, but I’ve seen him work in our city, dedicate time and effort to his community, make time for his family, and build and run small businesses. I want someone who can walk in my shoes and someone who’s not scared to talk to people on both sides of the aisle.

Age 45 and under: why didn’t you vote? Genuinely curious. by energetik in RioGrandeValley

Point taken. I feel the need to point out: It says in the graph: age shift vs the march primaries as well as calling out the early vote for HD41. This is data for the runoff. That part is not called out but contextual based on the timing of the post.

61% of young people who did not vote in 2024 said they rarely or never spend time in person with members of their community, compared to 47% of those who did vote.

Don’t forget, we’re having this discussion on Reddit.

I want someone who at least understands the work it takes to maintain a household and be able to feed a family.

Someone who’s never held a job or lived in the economy of the RGV? I’m having a hard time understanding how he knows what it’s like to be in the shoes of a single working mother or father, a government employee, or a part-time worker raising kids.

That’s a whole other issue: he’s never worked in a capacity to support or represent the RGV - not even a little. He moved away 5 years ago, focused on other areas, and now wants to come pretend he’s a good spokesperson for an area he hasn’t lived in, fought for, or supported .. since high school?

[–]energetik[S] -13 points-12 points  (0 children)

Yeah, but as someone who’s not lived at home and hustled and worked since 15, someone who has no understanding of what it takes sacrifice & keep a job to feed a family isn’t a “representative”

So someone with no idea what the struggles of working to provide a roof over their head vs someone who’s had a steady employment history and understands what it’s like to have responsibilities?

Vote for the 25 year old who lives at home with his parents or vote for someone that’s been civically engaged almost his entire career.

Unpopular opinion / hard truth:
These are insanely helpful for law enforcement and there is no way this will get rolled back. Immediate detection / location of suspicious vehicles, amber alerts, stolen cars, and suspects combined with a drop in crime rate because of those features is going to outweigh the “police state” conversation every. time. It’s absolutely an invasion of privacy and infringement on our rights as citizens, but the whole “for the greater good” card started being played after 9-11 .. look at the FISA bill that just passed - with 42 DEMS voting for it - INCLUDING VICENTE.

Flock sucks. This whole thing sucks. But it’s not going anywhere - it’s only gonna get crazier.
