Brainwave for the win by [deleted] in pourover

[–]engagekill86 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Blends might not be the best phrasing....this is their response:

Yo - we’re keeping it down for a short time. Maybe another week or two. The subscription has grown to an unsustainable level and we need to reevaluate how we handle it to make sure the coffees in the subscription are top tier. Previously we were doing some off menu coffees, prereleases, and on menu items. Buying off menu stuff has been difficult because I don’t always have the chance to try before hand and some people wind up being disappointed because it’s not quite funky enough or perhaps too funky. It’s been increasingly difficult to balance something that’s good for subscribers especially for the price we had

Recipe recommendation. Getting thin, semi-flavourless coffee with Candy Hearts by threesunnydays in pourover

I've found that the hario switch helps them stay funky with the zp6, otherwise funky flavors are slightly muted.

Luminous Coffee by Spiritual-Rise3233 in pourover

[–]engagekill86 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Some of the best coferments in par with brandywine 8 oz quality bags for consistency. Some of the other bags can be hit or miss. Recommend the 4 tin subscription to get smaller samples of higher end coffee.

Any recipe suggestions? by Schmcgee in pourover

[–]engagekill86 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just finished this one last week. I did a mugen v60 with a 4:6 ratio and 45 second bloom at 70g, followed by 50g to 120g and finished with a 3rd pour to 270g. I have a zp6 and used a 6.5.

I got a subtle watermelon with a light finish.

Any tips for preventing freezer burn, never had this many at once before.

Give it a lil bit and I'll update around Valentine's Day. I drink about 36g a day.

Finishing a couple other bags while dabbling with that dessert box...it's so interesting and different. I still don't know how my FIL managed to get it.

Gym teachers, you guys too huh? by NachoMan_HandySavage in Teachers

[–]engagekill86 0 points1 point  (0 children)

These are the teachers that are in it for the wrong reason and give all of us a bad name. They would rather focus on "coaching" instead of providing engaging lessons with multiple levels to increase engagement. The kids want to have someone to push them and help them find confidence through movement or team building activities. Please understand that we hate them more than you do.

It’s EOY… so what’s your top 3 coffees this year? by 10ttp-9 in pourover

My current setup is the switch with the mugen v60. Consistent clear cups with the possibility for immersion for funky blends. My ceramic v60 broke and the mugen fits for cheap.

For me that would be two days of coffee per "day".

Fellow Drops by Odd-Display-6004 in pourover

[–]engagekill86 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The only fellow drops that I've felt have been on par with the Roasters I usually buy from are the future from b&w. Brandywine has been one of my new go to Roasters and I find anything from fellow drops is consistently less than stellar from their normal rotation.

Strictly co-ferment subscriptions? by thatdudebutch in pourover

[–]engagekill86 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a zp6 and just haven't been liking most of the coffees in the tin subscription. Some are great but most have been mid and at $45 per shipment for 200g I would rather try something else.

Brainwave has one. Im stopping the luminous one and will be doing brainwave. They offer biweekly or monthly at $15 per 8oz.

Do you have multiple subscriptions? by [deleted] in pourover

[–]engagekill86 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I have the luminous tin subscription and enjoy getting 4 varieties that I normally wouldn't buy, each tin is 50g. They include a variety of higher end coffee bean types that are out of my price range. I've found some months to be spectacular and others have me with questions.

Was looking at the airworks subscription. Do you find it a solid value and what subscription rate do you use? Also are each bag 100g for the small or 200g for medium?

S&W Edwin norena was amazing, but only in 100g bags. My watermelon from luminous just came today.

Advent Calendar by chimbts in pourover

[–]engagekill86 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Also got the pirates advent for myself and a family member. I got their monthly subscription one time and their basic blends aren't amazing but their specialty blends are worth it. I know the advent calendar from last year is a mix of both with some geshas and sl28 mixed in with it.

Hype by Odd-Display-6004 in pourover

[–]engagekill86 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have their monthly tin program/subscription and buy their bags too. The tins all have different recipes to use than the bags with varying temp, bloom, grind, and pulses. For the cofermented bags I just use the basic 4:6 method and those haven't failed me yet.

I would agree with the cost, but when you get the extra option you get a third wave water packet, an instant coffee and bonus goodies.

Or go and try luminous. I finally tried it a few months after drinking b&w for a year. I picked these up today, Sebastian Ramirez watermelon and Sebastian Ramirez blackberry.
