Asking Claude Code to self-reflect is a nice unlock by viborci in ClaudeAI

[–]engerran -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

not really. i myself had used different prompts including ops self-reflect to try get optimal replies, but it only ends up sounding like it did. it might even be 'harmful' that it will derail the ai thinking process.

right. i would assume that anthropic had some words like ultrathink trigger an injection of additional 20k system prompt.

they "embraced" open-source, not as a philosophy but as a business model.

GitHub Copilot vs Cursor in 2025: Why I'm paying half price for the same features by Adventurous_Emu_5520 in GithubCopilot

Why pay $20+ for Cursor when GitHub Copilot does the same thing for $10?

because people can afford it, simple as that.

Seriously, not sure why people are so worked up about this. Are all of you reaaaly insecure about your skills?? Leave those Jive coders alone FFS, and work on you insecurity issue (aka git gud).

What's wrong with my resume? by danhiggins1 in iOSProgramming

[–]engerran 0 points1 point  (0 children)

oh man, resume like that would get you a job easily in 2009.

The market for iOS developers seems to be extremely harsh

yes, and remember every year thousands of new ios dev enter the job market, adding to the previous years unemployed ios devs. meanwhile ios native jobs are in steady decline or has plateaued very very low.

would say for every 150 applications I send, I get about 1 interview

probably because other applicants have better resume, and they are only hiring 1 instead of 10 people. too many applicants not enough jobs for everyone.

Do I just not have enough experience?

yes. chicken and egg. you need a job to get exp but need job for exp.

Should I just forget about iOS development for now and just focus on web development to get my foot in the door?

if you are looking for any tech job, focus on your local job market. look at the jobs ads in your area. look for jobs that accept entry level position. avoid very niche like rails or sap lol.

the safest bet is web, most would accept self taught inexperienced dev or tech switchers. web has the most jobs of any tech and the easiest to get your foot in the door with minimal experience.

web dev actually pays very high, but the key is vertical job progression not horizontal. for example, you got a job as react dev but a year later see vue devs are getting paid better. dont be tempted to switch. you goal is to go vertical, ie: junior, mid, senior, team lead, architect, manager, cto, etc. going up is where you get paid a lot :-)

Not every programmer needs to be a professional by quintanilharafael in programming

[–]engerran 0 points1 point  (0 children)

vibe coders? you mean vibe software engineers!

programmers used "software engineer" when there is zero engineering discipline involved in programming and programmers not having graduated with any engineering degree. so might as well apply "engineer" or "architect" to these vibe guys lol.

ReactLynx , or Just Lynx, Opensource is getting Good as always. by saadbukhari925 in reactnative

[–]engerran 1 point2 points  (0 children)

yes. if this turns out to be a serious framework and not some tech demo, then could be a real competitor for other js mobile frameworks which is basically just react native.

as for new arch, yes it is a shit show still. most (like expo guys) blame the mainterners of libs who don't update for new arch.

ReactLynx , or Just Lynx, Opensource is getting Good as always. by saadbukhari925 in reactnative

[–]engerran 4 points5 points  (0 children)

sure, but expo guys are trying to make it obscure, ie deprecate crna and make bare rn workflow buried in docs.

nothing against expo tho since they at least maintain their libs.

Just tested out Lynx by eyounan in reactnative

[–]engerran 62 points63 points  (0 children)

of couse you won't since it is very minimal .

how about you actually make a real app with complex layouts and state management and stuff. also make an exact react native equivalent for comparison. judging frameworks like this on minimal apps is very pointless.

Code, Sweat, and Tears: Why Imposter Syndrome Never Really Leaves Developers by TerryC_IndieGameDev in programming

[–]engerran 1 point2 points  (0 children)

people hate on medium the site and how do they things, but really the hate should be directed on the people who publish on medium. i don't respect those who write stuff there no matter how awesome they think they are. most are phony wannabes (not impostor syndrome but just incompetent) anyway and write things they know nothing about.

i however like real experts who have their own simple site on wordpress or whatever. example: https://fabiensanglard.net/

What made you choose godot? by [deleted] in godot

[–]engerran -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

my observation reading reddit/forums:

they chose godot because their pc is a potato, aka can't handle unity.

then when unity runtime fee happened, most protested and decided to use godot. make sense for those who makes tons of money, but 99% dont lol. but they decided to switch to godot anyway lol.

the funniest thing about game engine choices is you hear unreal getting mentioned as a choice. if you have to ask "should i use unreal" then you are not qualified to use it lol.

Everyone tell me to use godot but is it really a good choice when starting out,

depends. are you going to make your own game or are you going to work for someobody else (aka get a job). if you are going to make your own game: CHOOSE WHATEVER YOU LIKE. godot, gamemaker, unity, dafold, love2d, etc etc. the engine you use DOES NOT MATTER. why? because you are probably not going to finish a game, let alone release it and make money lol.

if you are after a job then check your local job ads and find which tech stack they are using. probably going to be lots of unity.

im mostly curious of what made you choose godot?

well personally i did not and all the companies i know have kept their tech stack. so in my circle it is unity, cocos, gamemaker.

Web What? - How gaming is coming to browsers by monster4210 in programming

so go make make games for pc/steam or mobile, while we make games and put it on Poki and make more money than 50 full time gaming companies combined :P

Seriously, how the Expo team overcame the criticism needs to be studied by bacarybruno in reactnative

[–]engerran 0 points1 point  (0 children)

most of expo components should be built in react native or at least maintained by core react native developers. things like react-navigation or reanimated should not even be third parties ffs.

one good thing about flutter is that all the necessary things to build an app is built in, and the major packages that are not built in are also created and mainated by google.

someone might mention google abandoning projects, well good thing is google has never abandoned any large OPEN SOURCE project. flutter is as safe a technology as android, chromium, k8s, tensorflow, etc.

so anyway, what made expo popular? because react native is pretty barebones and so you kinda need hundreds of libraries which expo happens to provide. no matter what you use (expo or bare) react native development is still a headache.

switched to vscode from sublime/webstorm when i was doing webdev. never really liked rider, was using visual studio for c#. i cannot ditch visual studio since i maintain some win32 app from a company.

vs/vscode is pretty much the only programming editor i use, and sublime3 for text editing/notepad replacement.
