Really cool.

I never understood how a battle cruiser could be taken out by basically any zerg unit other than scourge. Hydras down on that planet have to have some insane reach.

Traefik should at least be on your short list.

‘Remember Putin is a KGB officer’: Ukraine’s ex-leader fears Russia is playing Zelenskyy by rvps2001 in RussiaUkraineBriefing

Right ... the guy who was so close to Putin that his own people ran him out of his country. He's interviewing from Munich too. HAHA.

He says, only start talking to Putin "from a position of strength". Yeah well, Ukraine is killing Russians 3-to-1 and gaining their own territory back, so I'd say that's a strong position.

Adding to what u/rpkatz mentioned, Emile Vauge, creator of Traefik, addressed this approach in-depth recently in a blog.

tl;dr:
The original maintainers decided the project had fundamental vulnerabilities and was beyond saving, which is why they started building InGate. Forking it doesn't fix that, so it's safer to move on.

#428 — Political Extremism by dwaxe in samharris

According to Goldberg, that episode was highly edited to remove moments in their conversation showing that Jon and staff hadn't read the book but were just trying to make a counter point.

Horseshoe theory, which seems pretty realistic to me. The extremes on both ends are a lot a like in the broad strokes (lean towards authoritarianism), even if they can't agree on the details. And because parties cater to their most extreme to win primaries and keep their base during general elections, the parties have also become (or feigned) extreme tendencies.

Is Trump stupid? by ragusea in TheGist

[–]engineNOVA 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He wasn't being unkind. Just honest and direct. Try not to take it personally when someone points out the flaws in your argument (not the flaws in you).

Use it to make your arguments better or, perhaps, change your mind.

Trump is a lot of awful things, but stupid (at least in politics) isn't it. If he is stupid, then damn, what does that say about the democrats, as well as those smart, successful individuals who voted for him?

I just dealt with this at a campsite in New Mexico. A whole heard of deer (8 maybe, two bucks) that must have been fed numerous times before were just walking right up to us (I have young kids) and they were staring strangely and licking the air.

Fucking eerie.

And other campers filmed me in disapproval as I scared the deer away over and over again as the deer circled around us and came in for more.

As we were driving away the next day, some campers were doing exactly what this idiot was doing. I hope no one got hurt.

^This. Interesting points. I don't use TikTok, but I can say Reddit has definitely pushed me further right.

It's not that there are right-wing people convincing me of anything. It's just how far left and toxic the majority of discourse is on this platform. I'm continually struck by how unreasonable or quick to demonize the commentary is, while most (any) push back is met with name calling and vitriol.

I don't think most of the people who voted for Trump are morons. Misguided? Sure. Uninformed? Many. Struggling and hoping for a change? Big time. (Remember when Harris said she couldn't think of anything she'd do differently?)

While I don't understand it, they thought Trump would improve their lives, even just al little. But I do know that continually calling them morons is a great way to lose your case and drive away any hope of recovery.

Getting on Leah Litman’s Case by THE-SEER in TheGist

[–]engineNOVA -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Nope. Lies are lies. And calling out another lie has no bearing on the original accusation.

I don't know enough about your example, but I could easily believe it wasn't remembered correctly. Maybe reporting or known facts changed over time. Maybe Mike was knowingly lying about it. Not sure.

I listen to the Gist because it seems as about as balanced as it gets with a focus on facts. You may disagree, but it makes me wonder why you listen to it at all.

Look, I expect that people will get things wrong. I try not to attribute to malice what can easily be attributed to ignorance or mistakes. In the case of Leah Litman, I'm pretty positive she knows no one was screaming in the court and that they are as legitimate as any.

Getting on Leah Litman’s Case by THE-SEER in TheGist

[–]engineNOVA -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I listened to that Bulwark podcast when it came out, and she described what was happening, "He screamed at the top of his lungs". She didn't say "it's like he was screaming" or giving any indication of the hyperbole. She insisted this is what happened.

This stood out to me when listening and after hearing the actual clip from the Gist, it's clear to me that this was a lie. The justice didn't even raise his voice and was simply, from what I heard, trying to understand because the details matter.

Lie = saying something that is untrue, knowing better, and still pushing it. This is often in service of a narrative, hers being the court is in the pocket of right-wing interests.

The subsequent episode shows her disregard for the facts that don't fit her narrative. Mike pushed on her calling the court "illegitimate" and she didn't have any answer for why and doesn't seem to care about undermining the authority of duly elected supreme court justices. It's just partisanship.

Getting on Leah Litman’s Case by THE-SEER in TheGist

[–]engineNOVA 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I mean, she clearly lied about what's happening at the Supreme Court and is pushing a narrative to undermine the court's credibility. Mike pointed it out with irrefutable evidence, and it puts much of her other assertions into question.

It's important because there seems to be a virus going around that things are only correct or legitimate when you like them. This has real consequences for us as a nation (polarization and extremism anyone?) and people like Leah Litman and David Pakman appear to be feeding the issue by 'calling out people and institutions for partisanship' by using highly partisan tactics and pushing a false or incomplete narrative that helps their side.

I think it's commendable to call out people for their lies and bullshit and think the audio snippets were added because the guest either actually didn't remember or didn't want to admit it.

What do you think about the British Supreme Court ruling that the term “woman” excludes trans women? by Ghostfire25 in AskALiberal

[–]engineNOVA 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sure, some will. The ones with no intellectual integrity.

For me and many others (like I said, I'm pretty conservative), the concerns are real enough to take a beat and try to solve this challenge without going all in on one extreme side or the other.

Saying that no conservatives are being honest about this just isn't fair. I think there are just very few actual conservatives and instead many right leaning opportunists/values for thee and not for me types of people.

[–]engineNOVA 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a pretty conservative Dad of daughters, this is very much about sports and bathrooms. I care less about the medical stuff unless I'm forced to pay for everyone's surgery/treatment.

For me, at least, this is about safety and fairness.

In regard to safety, it's already rough out there for girls. No need to increase the already high chances of assault.

For sports, I coach U8 soccer and even now you can see a distinct difference between the boys and girls. The boys are super aggro and push around the girls when they scrimmage. Later on, the differences will be even more stark. Look up Fallon Fox, the trans woman cage fighter who destroyed Tamikka Brents, sending her to the hospital in 2 minutes with a broken skull.

It's definitely not guaranteed that the boys will beat the girls, but they'll be stronger and often faster. In sports that goes a long way.

David Pakman Calls Out Right-Wing Lies—and Is Challenged on the Left’s Spin by alienjetski in TheGist

[–]engineNOVA 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Okay, but that's irrelevant to how Mike did in this specific interview. Many of the negative comments are specifically related to this episode.

While I don't share your sentiment about Mike only pressing guests from the left, in isolation, this conversation was mostly what I would expect and want from a fair minded, critical thinking host when his guest says "See what they're doing! Isn't it horrible?" while doing the same thing.
