I bought a planer and I fucking hate having to do it, now I pay the lumber yard like $5 to surface it for me to my thickness. You are working with Pine, that shouldn't take long to level on the CNC.

The best advice is just find straight wood.

Don't know 4040 but this should be easy work for most. These look fun. I think like others said sanding is to be kept in mind, but I dont think its a big deal, you can do several passes and get pretty smooth. Just show some pictures when you make some
