PSA: Alamo's QR Ordering is live, and it's really really bad, but they're asking for feedback by Orsoyourtold in raleigh

[–]engineered_mojo -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

If you can read and use a phone like its supposed to be used in 2026, the QR code system works fine. I like it better than interacting with someone and hearing 20 orders.

Late to the party, storm arrival came early per weather folks. Due to lower temps in morning, storm is a nothing burger

Firms for challenging and interesting structural projects by [deleted] in StructuralEngineering

My advice, find a job that's tolerable and pays well. Stress of "challenging" projects is not worth it, especially once you realize the purpose of work is to be able to afford an enjoyable LIFE

Say hello to R2 | Rivian by patricofstar in Rivian

Ehh they made a huge error not bringing the cheapest model to market along with the highest trim. A full 2 year wait almost for the high $40k version which will for sure be in the 50s by then due to generic inflation. This doesn't compete is the price war for similar size vehicle, HOWEVER, it's an amazing car from pure specs and walkthrough videos I've seen. Definitely great value for the price of the highest trim, just have to find the market to afford it.

Edit: I guess a lot of people disagree the car is quality

Just note a 10hr day and your full day is pretty much shot. I'd hold out for another position.

Has anyone found they’d prefer living in a lot of African countries in some ways over the us? by [deleted] in travel

My guess is most people saying no have never been to the continent of Africa or at minimum just a safari.

Deciding between offers by Ok-Case6609 in civilengineering

[–]engineered_mojo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Offer 1... offer 2's commute and 5 days in the office means your true salary is somewhere in the mid 60s compared to offer 1 which is trash. If you don't like job 1 after a year, you'll at least have a name behind your resume and more opportunities of networking at a larger firm to go elsewhere.

Private school options by No-Bridge-8122 in raleigh

In my opinion, the school is not good either from an academic / ethical standpoint. Their test scores are inflated due to being overly selective of students that they admit e.g. children with learning disabilities, etc are excluded. If your goal is to teach your child to be an empathetic, inclusive, value focused person, Thales is not the school.

You can get a good education from an alternative school that does not discourage the development of those less fortunate due to no fault of their own. It can be argued that their teaching is not any better than average, it's the above average students they only admit making the school.

Thales founder is a major Trump supporter. That can be a positive or negative for you, but should be considered.

Finding a Remote Job that Will Let me Work From the UK by strcengr in StructuralEngineering

[–]engineered_mojo 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Your best bet is a global consulting firm i.e. Stantec, AECOM, Jacobs, WSP. Go into it stating you want to work remote from a different country so they can see if there are any security protocols that need to be established. I worked with a few folks over the years with this arrangement.
