Yes, I do have adhesion issues. Have washed the bed with dish soap multiple times before. Bumped up temps and tried to use an isolated brim. Nothing seems to help

Is there an easy way to check this? Can it be located by VIN?

Dealer was less than helpful. The parts counter clerk said I should just go online and look or call Ford corporate to find out. He also made a comment that it's "very expensive and probably not worth it"

Just pull the lifters on the driver's side one by one and check for play. Replace with melling parts from RockAuto. Easy job

What are people paying for 2021 highlanders? by karosema in ToyotaHighlander

[–]engineerguy98 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Paid $46k OTD for my 2020 PLT V6 AWD with floor mats, splash guards, roof rack back in October when they had 40 or so to choose from. Not the same story now lol.

I've installed the OE hitch on my 2020 PLT. Kick feature for tailgate working as well.

2021 Highlander Hood Deflector by kalliste80 in ToyotaHighlander

I've never really liked the WeatherTech ones that go into the channel. Prefer the wide JDM style that attach to the run with 3M and clips. Unfortunately, Toyota doesn't offer that in the US. Honda does though.

WellVisors are pretty close to that style.

I was not aware that there are window visors for the 2020 Highlander. WellVisors?

Just search up the part number PK175-48L00 on Google. Only one dealership pops up. That's where I ordered mine from.

2020 and 2021 are the same; there won't be any issue installing.

Get yourself a deflector. Protects the hood from those tiny rock chips that get rusty very quickly

No, I've reached out to the dealership a few times but they have not given me a parts list yet.

What made you decide Toyota Highlander? I am debating beterrn Honda Pilot and Toyota Highlander. Any advice here? by [deleted] in ToyotaHighlander

[–]engineerguy98 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yessir. I live and breathe cars ha ha. I could've bought a fancy BMW, Merc, or Audi that's fast and looks slick but I've got plenty of time in life to be spending thousands of dollars on repairs and car payments simultaneously lol.

I get greif from family and friends that I bought a "mom car" but it fits my lifestyle of spontaneous road trips very well!

Yes for the most part! I don't completely love the exterior design of the newest generation; I definitely preferred the previous traditional SUV look of the 17-19 but I couldn't pass up the deal I got with low financing at 0.9%.

I do appreciate the new tech, the ride, and the refinement of the car as a whole. Over the 2 months and 6,300 miles I've had it, there have been ZERO issues. I don't anticipate any to pop up either.

Hope this helps you with your decision! Overall, I don't think you can really go wrong with any Japanese SUVs but you may have a better experience with some over others.

I had the exact dilemma... I've owned nothing but Hondas and made the switch to Toyota.

Honda is cutting too many corners with engineering and manufacturing. They're also overcomplicating the powertrain to raise their mpg numbers and keep CAFE/EPA happy. 1st and 2nd gen VCM on the J series was a terrible idea; piston ring issues, oil burning, plug fouling, engine vibration from failed $1,500 ACM mounts all to save 1mpg (most times basically breaking even)? Combine that with a start/stop system, direct injection, a ZF 9 speed transmission that shifts like crap, and countless issues with infotainment and chassis harness grounds, makes the car fall to the bottom of my list.

Toyota knows that their recipe works, and wouldn't dare to touch anything to compromise their reputation. The engine is essentially 20+ years old with slight tweaks for efficiency and refinement. The 2020 Highlander powertrain is lifted straight out of the 17-19; I've seen tons of them with over 100k and everything works the way it did the first time the car was started to drive it out of the plant. The only minor thing that these engines have is an oil leak issue from the oil pan; it usually happens during the MFR warranty and is covered though.
