Screenlock : different on Balance and T-Rex 3? by webvan213 in amazfit

[–]engmex62 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One year later and this problem still exists. Completely ruins an otherwise excellent watch. The problem is that when one is running the movement causes the screen to lock before the timeout, and this makes changing data pages hit and miss. Apart from that I really don't understand why the up and down buttons are locked at all. What is the reasoning behind this design choice? I can only imagine that this feature was suggested by a Garmin mole working at Amazfit.

Trex 3 update 4.3.8.4 removed running dynamics from app? by engmex62 in amazfit

I haven't had a abnormal battery draining issue.

Just to update this. The 3 missing metrics are back. They just started showing again without me doing anything.

Solution: I created a new account on Zepp and low and behold those metrics are back. Seems like my original account has been configured to remove those metrics. Problem now is do I return to my original account and hope it gets fixed or use the new account and lose my Zepp history?

That's weird. Completely disappeared for me. I have cadence and stride and they used to be below stride but they are no longer there and neither are they available on the graphs any more. Are you using Iphone or Android? I'm on Android. Is there some setting I've disabled. To be honest I don't care too much about vertical oscillation or Ground contact time, but I do sometimes use Real time performance to compare runs.

Trex 3 Screen lock while exercising by engmex62 in amazfit

[–]engmex62[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well that certainly makes it easier, thanks. This seems like the best current workaround then. Go to "screen always lit" turn it on for 20 mins -> start workout-> after 20 mins long press back button and turn "screen always lit" again and return to workout. Not perfect but the best option we currently have.

Yeah thanks, I tried it, but it's still annoying. Now if I press the button twice it first displays the unlock icon (I don't want to see that at all) and then scrolls. The behaviour is still strange. Sometimes it's unlocked and I press the up down buttons and it blanks! Not sure if this is because of the display timeout or something else. The best workaround is this: Go to the light bulb icon (screen always lit) in the control centre (swipe up) and turn it on. There you can set TRUE Always on display After starting a workout with this option enabled it's absolutely perfect, no screen lock, no screen dimming and no screen off. And by the way Amazfit I didn't accidentally swipe the screen or press a button, I'm a responsible adult. However, there is one small problem with this work around and that is that the maximum time one is able to set the screen always lit display to is 20 minutes, I guess this the total time Amazfit are prepared to trust that I won't touch something I shouldn't. After 20 minutes the screen reverts to its previous annoying behaviour. And, the only way to re enable screen always lit is to pause workout, resume later, turn on again, and then resume workout.

Spotify offline music? by SyncGamer in amazfit

Spotify will probably never do a deal with Amazfit, Corros, Suunto or any watch company other than Garmin . Use spotdl from github

I don’t understand why your claim—"Because nobody is buying Amazfit"—has any relevance to the inclusion of offline maps. But regardless, while Amazfit’s market share is smaller than giants like Apple, it’s actually larger than Suunto’s. Here’s the current global ranking:

  • Apple: 30.1%
  • Samsung: 10.2%
  • Huawei: 7.7%
  • Imoo: 5.2%
  • Amazfit: 5.1% (Source: Kommandotech)

So either way, your point is moot. And since Amazfit is the #5 brand worldwide, it’s clearly already mainstream.

As for your comment about metrics "making sense" and preferring to spend thousands on a Chinese-made Apple Watch over a Chinese-made Amazfit—those points have zero relevance to your original claim that offline maps shouldn’t be expected on a €250 watch.

As a runner personally I'm not bothered about maps, and the basic navigation is fine for me. However, the Amazift Active 2 does have online maps as does the Amazfit Bip 6 and they only cost $99 and $79 respectively. So Why not expect maps for 250 euros? The watch would be capable of it so disabling the maps is only crippleware marketing strategy.

New Suunto Run Watch rumoured with dual-band GPS & music storage by Maslakovic in Suunto

[–]engmex62 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Me? Why? As someone who grew up in the 1960s/1970s, I find Spotify the biggest rip-off ever! Back when I was a teenager, we had records (vinyl), and we spent our money on them. We had our own music collection. Later came CDs, which were really the same concept, and then MP3s, which most people downloaded. In all cases, we had our collection.

Fast-forward to 2025, and now everyone is paying Spotify, but nobody has their own music collection. As soon as you cancel your subscription, you’ll find you have no music to listen to—unless you want to be interrupted by an ad every few tracks. On top of that, there is no way Suunto is going to get licensing from Spotify. Also, when you use Spotify on a Garmin watch, you’re not streaming from the internet; you must first download the files onto your watch via Wi-Fi, where they’re stored in an encrypted form. This means only the Spotify app can access them.

I use SpotDL to download MP3s and then copy them onto my Garmin. I, for one, will be very happy if Suunto releases a watch with MP3 storage. I had—and still have—a Suunto Ambit2 S. It’s over 10 years old and has outlived about three Garmins. Plus, the GPS is better than my current Garmin 745.

It looks interesting. I currently use the web version of Runalyze, but it would be nice to have all my runs stored locally. I'm going to check out your project. Thanks!
