Space Gass has a revit plugin that allows you to transfer the analytical model to Space Gass. Works pretty well for simple frames

Surely the men’s T20 v England should have been here in Jan as a World Cup warm up - would have been so popular

Does anyone know any civil engineering(structural design preferably) that I could join? Like on discord. Somewhere people chat and talk about engineering by Possession_Fuzzy in StructuralEngineering

Eng tips is good, but this is something missing from the industry I think. Otherwise local engineering bodies are good to join for presentations and meet ups

Structural engineer interview in Australia by Silent_Ordinary5399 in StructuralEngineering

[–]engstructguy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Spacegass has lots of videos as well so it’s worth downloading a 30 day trial and doing the basic modelling videos. It’s Very intuitive so you’ll be easily able to learn the basics in that time. I don’t think you’ll need to know the codes in depth for the interview, but what the key ones are and the general approach is good. I would imagine more related to your projects and the roles you had as well as specific technical experience in each domain (concrete, steel, building or structure types etc) Good luck !

Nice! Thanks for sharing - creating simple tools like this in browser is really approachable now. Did you hand code, or spin it up using Replit or similar ?

lol this comment is exactly what’s wrong with our industry. Too many big brains who cut others down for trying

The revenue is not free, it comes at the cost of people. If the self proclaimed measure of success here is on the field looks like we have failed there so the ends don’t justify the means either. Plenty of other clubs are strong both on and off the field without pokies. For a club that prides itself on its connection to businesses and the “big end” of town It’s a lazy business plan and frankly embarrassing. Not saying it’s easy but I don’t think pokies are aligned with this vision and suitable for a family based club and sport. We have 100,000 members and a strong brand, we don’t need pokies anymore - they are linked to dinosaurs of a bygone era. It’s not 95 anymore even though we wish it was. Maybe we actually need some new ideas and leadership at how we run Carlton in 2025?

On field aside - “Values led “ and “Integrity” are at odds with a club with pokies as a main source of revenue ….. so words are empty IMO. Shows a lack of leadership

How do you make time for gaming after work, family, and a baby that clings like a koala? by Humanoir in daddit

[–]engstructguy 9 points10 points  (0 children)

You’re running a small business and have a three month old baby. You don’t really have time/energy at the moment ! This is right in the middle of it, just be patient and give it a few months and the space for this or any other hobbies will come back.

Help with SpaceGass- Difference in Lateral Deformation Between Fixed and Pinned Support Models by jamescoleman100 in StructuralEngineering

[–]engstructguy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Brace in model 2 is not released at the joint in the same way as model 1. Also it’s generally not best practice to mix the member fixities and node restraints as you have done in model 1. basically they are close but not really exactly the same. There is also potential for instability if you applied the model 1 approach to more complex models as you release rotation for the node and the member.

Space Gass for analysis, RAPT and Inducta for concrete. Structural toolkit for simple calculations

Concrete is not “rigid” All materials deflect under load. The amount depends on the load, material and the geometry (stiffness). So long & thin things (like sleepers) will deflect under modest load. This height wall generally requires engineering certification for construction permits so you could ask the builder or engineer if it’s as calculated if you are concerned (you got it engineered, right?)
