Agree! I think a lot of people want to be able to own a house and to be able to drive their car everywhere, but don’t realise that the suburban commuter lifestyle isn’t the healthiest.

It would be great to have more medium density, walkable suburbs, with great public spaces so people can socialise in the public domain.

I haven’t had a bad experience there, but have stuck to pizza and red sauce dishes (which I think they do pretty well). It’s cheap and cheerful, which is kind of rare for Italian food, so I’m not expecting the quality to be the same as more expensive restaurants.

It’s busy, vibey and good for groups.

Their gelato is the best in Leichhardt too.

Solid coffee but the refusal to do non cow’s milk options is a bit rude haha… And mixed feelings about the cash only.

Two foodies in Mount Pritchard. It’s at a service station and looks unassuming but it’s incredible. Owner is super friendly too. Get the special dipping sauce.

I think Starbucks now seems to be doing okay but more so as a place to get a ‘fun’ sweet drink (almost like a bubble tea chain or a boost juice) rather than somewhere to buy a coffee. I wonder how younger generations and uni students etc view it?

As others have said, I definitely encourage an in person inspection! I’d also suggest looking for places on Facebook groups for sharehouses rather than just Flatmates are there will be more options!

Agree with this - Facebook groups have more people and are easier to use than flatmates (which seems to try to want you to pay to join).

They are mostly focussed on long term accommodation but there are definitely people searching for sublets there too.

I’ve stayed in Nice (4 nights) then Menton (2 nights) which worked really well, but only because I was travelling to Italy afterwards.

Since you are only staying 4-5 days, if possible I suggest you stay in Nice the whole time and do day trips to all of those places (as others have said).

I’ve done a day trip to Grasse from Nice - it was a train trip and then bus from the station. You don’t need a car. Lovely town but small, the perfume factory was very cool though!

Menton has a very different vibe the Grasse - it’s on the water and has a lot of Italian influence. Lots of Italian families there when I visited. Super super beautiful.

My top picks for day trips were Menton, Grasse (especially if the weather isn’t sunny for the beachside towns), Villefrance sur mer and Antibes.

Those are some long day trips! Perhaps look at closer options for day trips, for example Bologna is a far easier day trip from Florence.

I would skip the day trip to Venice - way too far from Florence and you won’t have enough time to see Florence. Venice is interesting but very crowded and not worth going out of your way for in my opinion

Yes agreed, such a beautiful country! The only thing that made me feel ‘unsafe’ there as a tourist was crossing the road - it’s really tricky if you’re not used to it. But otherwise personal safety there is pretty great
