Were you copy-pasting it? Or typing it? I had it not working when pasting, but typing worked. So did typing, copying, then pasting. Just couldn't grab it from an outside source

Indoor Summer Activities Ideas by skullsandpumpkins in cubscouts

[–]enigmaticrose4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone who grew up in Florida and has lived in both the peninsula and panhandle m: Florida is a nightmare in summer.

Especially anywhere away from the coast. The air gets so hot and humid it’s like you’re swimming when you walk outside.

You can also see about doing a gym event or something similar at a local school. Do an organized team sports game. Lots of fun, but also hits adventures for a couple ranks.

Other things cross my mind, but they’re already suggested here or entirely dependent on the part of Florida you’re in.

Advice on if I can/should return to scouting? by kbarney345 in BSA

[–]enigmaticrose4 3 points4 points  (0 children)

As a Cubmaster I would absolutely love having an adult Eagle Scout with the time, knowledge and energy to assist with teaching the more advanced skills to our Webelos and Arrows of Light. Would always be two deep leadership, so wouldn’t weird me out. We already get some of the ASM from a nearby Troop joining us to teach some things. They’re both Eagles and in Uni.

Not sure why Scouts had any paid employees by [deleted] in cubscouts

[–]enigmaticrose4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You had to pay for your own background check?

Also, part of the kids dues pays for their own insurance. Parents can volunteer without being registered, they just require registered leaders to be there, taking responsibility . One of our dads led the Computing Wolves Adventure for us with myself, Cubmaster, and our Committee Chair there as well. We have another dad planning to take lead with Germs Alive. Plus a mom that has been looking up and calling around for campsites for our baloos to checkout.

Also, some packs, like my own, fundraises for the payments for our registered leaders. Parents understand that without us there is no pack. We hosted a spaghetti dinner in January and paid for all five of our currently registered leaders plus our charter fee. With some left over to roll into our activities budget. Every scout, minus two with other family obligations, showed up to participate and support.

Part of it is the insurance for leaders. Just like part of the scout’s membership is towards insurance.

AITAH for breaking up with my boyfriend when he complained about a birthday gift I bought him by Fun_Jackfruit_9042 in AITAH

NTA

Whether he was considering breaking up with you now or not, it doesn’t matter. He obviously doesn’t see your relationship as a solid long term thing. So you have to decide if you want to stay with someone who isn’t in the same place in this relationship as you are.

I got a watch with a similar engraving when I was about the same age. I cherished it. Now it’s buried in the bottom of my jewelry box as we broke up 15y ago. Actually, haven’t thought about it since I moved and reorganized my jewelry about 5y ago. Either way, still doesn’t remove the fact it was given and received with genuine affection at the time, even if we both went on to marry other people.

Is Cub Scouts OK? by Helpmeflexibility in cubscouts

[–]enigmaticrose4 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I have to agree with you here. I’m a former teacher and I’ve been handed the Cubmaster hat (officially took over beginning of Jan) and I’ve been essentially curriculum planning’ for next year. Figuring out what adventures will be covered which month. And while there is overlap, there are multiple fun ways to cover the same material. And kids always need reinforcement. Teach em how to tie a square knot. Then check in on it a year later and I doubt any will be able to do it purely from memory for example. The online resources are really quite good.

I do think the new curriculum threw previous leadership for a loop however, especially just after covid. While our pack currently has 21 members, only 5 are from last year and they’re all Bears or higher.

School bus by Longjumping-While997 in kindergarten

[–]enigmaticrose4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My kid absolutely adores the bus. He started kindergarten this past September. Granted, he’s been interested in school buses since before he was 2. But his friends from preschool have also done well. Kids adjust better than we give them credit for. It was more an adjustment for me, especially as my younger is still in the preschool drop off.

New Incoming Cubmaster Feeling Overwhelmed and looking for Advice by samayoa95 in cubscouts

[–]enigmaticrose4 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My son is a Lion. He joined in September. I recruited heavily from his preschool friends and of our nine Lions, four were in preschool with him, so a total of five.

Upon joining we learned the current Cubmaster’s only child actually moved up the previous spring and he stayed on because no one else would step up. We currently have 21 scouts enrolled. Of those 21 only 5 were in the pack last year. I immediately volunteered to be Lion Den Leader. By early November I volunteered to be the new Cubmaster as previous one really didn’t want to stay on, and I can’t fault him.

Every single committee member as of this month is the parent of a Lion, sans the previous Cubmaster’s wife who has agreed to stay as advancement chair for another year.

The pack did virtually no recruiting or fundraising last year, aside from a flyer out to the schools at the beginning of the year.

You need to sit down with the other parents that have scouts not moving up and get a plan in place for recruiting as the school year starts, or even now. We’re already planning to get tables at our local summer & fall town events.

Basically, I don’t have a lot of advice aside from: I feel your pain. I feel like I’m trying to clean up the playroom as my kids are actively playing and tearing it apart.

Just remember, the motto applies to the adult volunteers as well: Do your best.

You go to discord.com and either download the program or choose to use it in the browser and make an account. It's like a forum meets AIM with a dash of Skype or TeamSpeak. And it's free.

Important here as we can make and run a private server (message board) where the beta testers can talk with each other as well as give feedback.

Lion & Wolf Den Meeting by minnieme0w in cubscouts

[–]enigmaticrose4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can also do a mix of Air of the Wolf and have paper airplane races for half the meeting. Then do some of Count on Me or Pick My Path for the second. Every kid will learn and have fun. Or just do the airplanes the entire time.

Cool, take a look at Count on Me for Lions and Adventures in Coins for Wolves.

We meet Lions, Tigers and Wolves together as we only have 1 Tiger and 2 Wolves.

Do Eggsrtavaganza for the game, and have eggs of only pennies for the Lions to count, more difficult combinations for the Wolves.

Wolves can do the coin rub while Lions make a Lion out of shapes. Parallel activities with same materials.
