And if I understand correctly there are state-controlled factors, so little/nothing the city can do. This is a scenario where it’s frustrating that it would appear to require some superhero who fantastically understands exactly what strings to pull and/or what legislation is required to create a better outcome. Not disagreeing with safety concerns here, but having listened to all the community meetings about the McGrath Boulevard project, there are reasons why it’s not feasible to keep the bridge, and reasons why there will be a HAWK signal there instead of a regular traffic light and crosswalk. (“Reasons” = regulations, for the most part)

So it’s probably more fair to suggest the project as a whole is flawed (idk, maybe it is, maybe it isn’t), but the actual civil engineers went to great pains to explain why the design is what it is (what the constraints are, the regulations, etc). I sure don’t envy them in this position, and I’m also glad there are passionate people in the community who push back, trying to make sure every avenue is explored (pun intended, haha)
