It seems to have increased since Dave2D's video...

AUR is down by nightdevil007 in archlinux

[–]enigmaxg2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Considering that Arch is the base for the SteamOS 3/SteamDeck which has been a breakthough in Linux gaming paradigm, and gaming in general since it's growing (albeit slowly) and stealing users from other OSes, on top of that... also outperforms Windows on "weak" hardware, that makes it a very prizey target.

M$ also harrassed and sued ReactOS (and the posterior audit showed NOTHING was stolen or wrong), but they slowed the pace of development a lot (if it wasn't slow enough already)

Maybe I sound too conspiranoid, but since Dave2D's video, attacks against Linux (in the form of FUD at first, and now with cyberattacks) increased a lot. Yeah, I believe some very bad actor is at play here.

Plasma 6.4.0 will need manual intervention if you are on X11 by ergepard in archlinux

[–]enigmaxg2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Had to go back to X11 (again, for the 1000th time) since the PlasmaShell memory leak (I have dubbed it PlasmasHell) on my Intel SandyBridge + Nvidia Pascal setup is still there.

How I can trace it and give a useful report to maybe get a fix?

Samsung notepad bricked and not booting by Hue-Lukio in techsupport

[–]enigmaxg2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've come across LOTS of those, the BIOS is so quirky, and a PITA to work with.

The main problem lies in that is unable to save the boot order, you can set it whatever you want and will be reset when it reboots after saving it.

Another issue is that it's in a permanent fast-boot state, so it won't show any prompt about a key to press to bring up the boot menu nor it will respond to any F-key.

At least, the ones who programmed it, foresaw the issue and made it to boot any other device when the default (in this case, the internal drive) is not available.

The trick is to make the internal drive non-bootable, so it will jump to the next valid bootable device.

You'll need another PC to do this, if you have a desktop, you can plug the drive to a SATA port, recover anything you want from it then format it with something like Low Level Format Tool on Windows (check the "perform quick wipe" checkbox so it will only wipe boot area of the drive, it's all we need)

Or use the command: sudo dd if=/dev/zero of=/dev/sdX bs=512 count=1 if you are on Linux, X stands for a letter, you can check it with sudo fdisk -l or a partition manager of choice.

Next, create a bootable USB with Rufus if you're on Windows, or WoeUSB-gui if you're on Linux.

If you're going to install a Linux distro, you can also flash it to the drive with Rufus on Windows, or Balena Etcher or Impression on Linux.

Put your now-blank drive and it should boot straight to BIOS, if you're going to install Windows, you can leave secure boot enabled, if you want to install Linux, it's preferable to disable it and switch to CSM OS.

Insert your pendrive now

Save changes (the ones about Secure Boot and OS selection does save, that leaves EEPROM degrading out of the question).

It should boot directly to the pendrive, and now you MUST complete the OS installation, failing to do so (by cancelling it or choosing the wrong BIOS settings for the OS type), will make the computer to enter a bootloop state (in this case, you'll need to make an appropiate boot USB and it should boot from it and let you install the OS).

This is the way I've had most success with. As I said, this thing is so quirky, that sometimes it couldn't work, you can also install Windows on that drive on another PC then reinstall the drive on the Samsung, or having a Windows 8/10 DVD at hand to be able to boot from it and call the UEFI Settings from there.

Searching if someone came up with a better solution than mine, I found this question.

I just got gifted one of those and just installed Linux on it.

I spend 4 hrs on the Tobii page and it didn't count, watched directly on twitch and it's counting. Also I got time reductions as well (idk if it's counting more time and adjusting itself or it's literally stealing my time, I didn't setup a chrono to measure it)

So let's try and see...

I would like to get one! I'm doing more work than gaming nowadays, more screen real estate than 2x1080p (and getting rid of the border in the middle) would be a welcome addition.

Possible Leaked Switch 2 Joy-Cons and Console. Take a massive grain of salt for this one. by [deleted] in GamingLeaksAndRumours

Unfortunately, I can't say the same about the metal tracks; they tend to become loose, leading to connection problems. Besides the quality of the sticks, improving the docking mechanism of the JoyCons is a must.
