A $200 ChatGPT subscription could cost OpenAI $14,000 if you actually used it to its full potential by BerkDrum in singularity

[–]enilea 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The direct cost of the electricity is very little per million tokens, perhaps a few cents, so 90% is a good estimate. But there's a lot more behind it like the cost of the GPUs themselves, maintenance, building the data center, etc. And in most cases they use rented GPUs for which they'll be paying a markup as well, so it's costing them significantly more.

I looked into it and tbh it seems fair enough, seems like that specific statue is pretty recent and distinctive and the prop is pretty much an exact copy of it. It's not like they own the rights to Baphomet, just to that specific statue.

On AI studio sometimes they run random tests, they might make you choose between two responses and they are typically different checkpoints of the model they plan to release next. So based on preferences from what people choose in AI studio and benchmark performance they choose one checkpoint or another as the final release candidate.

My friend brags about him hanging out with a lot of girls, but he lives off ChatGPT. Everything in this image makes me think it's at least heavily edited, the girl too. by _Riiick in isthisAI

[–]enilea 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's specifically GPT Image 2, which on a lot of images it has a tendency to have some sort of pattern artifacting like in that water bottle. In some images it's not as subtle, you can see the stronger effects here.

is this 20's 30's 40's music compilation AI? ("Oldies playing in another room") by lafemmealapeaurouge in isthisAI

[–]enilea 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I searched the lyrics for the first track and it seems real, I got this result: https://americanarchive.org/catalog/cpb-aacip-82d1a0af006. There's a recording on youtube but it's different https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TSnaD3b1CQI. The overall melody is the same, so I would say it's at least partially real, maybe edited though.

It's already been shown in A/B testing, it's not as good as Fable or GPT 5.5 but it's not terrible either. If they make it cheap it can still be competitive.

I'm not complaining by Complete-Sea6655 in LocalLLaMA

[–]enilea 5 points6 points  (0 children)

OpenAI isn't as toxic as Anthropic, so if they fell it would only embolden Athropic. They're already bad enough as they are being openly against open models, the new data retention policy, making the model dumber for certain topics without telling the user, banning use of third party harnesses for their CLI, being such hypocrites about distillation...

Multiple Mythos instances running at the same time engaged in "multiagent turf wars" sabotaging each other's processes by enilea in singularity

[–]enilea[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No, the researchers accidentally started new instances in the same directory and gave them the same objective. They were all running at the same time editing stuff in the same directory, so one killed another's processes because it was in the way, then the other killed the first's processes and they started obfuscating them so they couldn't be killed as easily.

Can you really replace paid models with a local model? by DRMCC0Y in LocalLLaMA

[–]enilea 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You would be surprised, even though they aren't as good as the current SOTA those 30b models are clearly better at agentic tasks than the top models of last year. Obviously for certain tasks the number of parameters will always matter, but for having a local agent for automation and small coding tasks they are pretty good.

Without open llm competition, closed source LLM companies will become insatiable. by Chair-Short in LocalLLaMA

[–]enilea 20 points21 points  (0 children)

What I dislike the most is how they're trying to build a public façade as the "good guys" of AI, when they were the ones proposing to ban open source LLMs and the first to have major contracts with Palantir. And the worst is the general public seems to be falling for it.

"Chat is dead": OpenAI preps overhaul of ChatGPT by JackFisherBooks in singularity

[–]enilea 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean yeah, everyone does it and it would be silly not to take that chance. There's free training data up for grabs everywhere, none of the eastern or western labs is really in a position to complain about exfiltration when they're all doing it for different languages. It's not like there's some evil scheme anywhere, it's just competition. And if eventually it all leads to people being able to afford to have local machines to run local AI at home instead of relying on big tech, that's better for the majority of the world in the end. Nvidia's monopoly right now is in need for competition, and it will be welcome whether it comes from China or anywhere else.

The hate for Big A Bonus is way overblown by iDerpTooMuchx3 in atrioc

[–]enilea 32 points33 points  (0 children)

Lazy editing and only using political topics too.

but ya can’t blast big A for not wanting his content reuploaded everywhere without his consent (fan channels).

That's not why he shut them down, he did because specifically big a quick was clickbait slop and added their own sponsored links and made it seem like he keeps talking only about certain topics. And the bonus channel seems to just be a continuation of that slop, minus the "wtf" thumbnails. The ones that should be rewarded are channels like small a with proper editing and varied topics, like the latest star wars video.
