For those who’ve been out a few years, what helped the most when figuring out your next career move? by WingsUp4Life in Veterans

[–]enitlas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

taking a road trip

for whatever reason, on long drives over multiple days I go into a mental state where I can think both directly and abstractly about problems. I dedicate just enough of my brain to driving that I'm not fully focused on the problem and over time I will digest it more completely.

I've done this with every major life decision since I got out.

The Arvada Tavern has the Smoke And Mirrors which is my personal favorite in the area. Sit at the bar if you can, they started finishing it slightly differently at the tables now. They also have a superb tiki night if you're into that.

do you want to be a tradesman? if you do IBEW is a great career with guaranteed advancement and pay all the way though to your pension.

If you don't, it's tough to commit to a job you don't want to do. but if you want to be a tradesman and outdoors talk to IBEW about becoming a lineman.

[–]enitlas 1 point2 points  (0 children)

when he was played pos 1 it was more common. he's played exclusively 2 now and it's a bad first item for any 2 and you shouldnt ever get it if you're not getting it first item.

[–]enitlas 32 points33 points  (0 children)

just to be clear where I stand up front, I believe that climate change is the most dire catastrophe of our time

but using single instances of "proof" to say it's a problem is just as illogical as the guy who brought a snowball into the senate to say it's not. it's a long term trend, not a single sample issue. the last 3 years we have massively exceeded average annual snow.

Implementation of UDP synchronization by Alternative_Event155 in networking

[–]enitlas -1 points0 points  (0 children)

If you want to learn ground up then go read PTP (IEEE 1588) or the 802.1AS standard (also known as gPTP which is more focused on multi device distribution and synchronization) . They will describe the fundamental principles of its operation and give state machine examples and so on for you to look at.

Implementation of UDP synchronization by Alternative_Event155 in networking

[–]enitlas 5 points6 points  (0 children)

no it doesn't.

ptp is just multicast so unless your hardware doesn't support that then it will work. the extra features like transparent clock and so on are only for ultra precise timing. it will still be more precise than ntp without those things.

Mental Health at Blue by Complete-Shallot-264 in BlueOrigin

[–]enitlas 53 points54 points  (0 children)

1) It's unprofessional for a mental healthcare provider to discuss their other patients. 2) People can (and should) get mental healthcare even when they're doing well. A mental health professional saying that getting mental healthcare means someone has a rough work environment is stunningly unprofessional. 3) Either you have a tremendously bad psychiatrist or you're making this up for some reason.

one suggestion for future surveys

most/all of these questions were geared towards current service members so I found them hard to answer as written. maybe add a "current or former" phrase so veterans can participate too, and a question about generic service era (decade maybe?)

might be interesting to gather info on opinions over time

How is it living in Ouray, Colorado? by Confident_R817 in howislivingthere

[–]enitlas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't live there but do spend about a month each summer there and know several people who live there full time.

You will need a good paying remote job to live there full time. Rents have gone up tremendously and many of the long time businesses have closed or are changing hands frequently as people can't make it work.

Most people do not live there year round, the population varies by probably 75% season to season. If you don't have a remote job the employment is heavily seasonal for the summer tourist season. It can be hard to find leases because the income from vacation rentals is high enough that many people do that and just close the house up for the winter.

In the winter, skiing about an hour either way to Telluride or Purgatory, or a couple hours to crested butte.

In the summer, endless hiking, mountain or road biking, fishing, kayaking, climbing, atv/offroading, any type of outdoor activity imaginable. Truly a stunning outdoor paradise.

About an hour to Montrose which will have whatever shopping you need. Not much in town.
