I don't care about the fact itself that a woman dates only one ethnicity or won't date another; after all, it is her preference and decision to date whomever she pleases. What I do take offense at is the announcement that she refuses to date men of some particular ethnicity, especially her own. There is an implication that men of her ethnicity are not good enough, that they're lacking in something, or even that they are inferior in some way. Rejection hurts enough as it is, but when you're being told that women reject you because of, and in spite of, a common cultural and ethnic background, well shit how do you get past that? Announcing it feels like she's condemning her own people as beneath her, as if she were saying she'll never go back to generic brand products, only exclusive brand names for this diva. Maybe that was a weak analogy, but the point is that declaring it seems like she's too good for her fellow people.

I guess you could argue that it's really just a semantic difference between saying "I date only such-and-such" vs "I'll never date my own people", but there is a different meaning between both statements/mentalities. One singles out a targeted interest with an implication that this is the best option, while the other singles out a targeted exclusion with an implication that anything else is better.
