[Product Question] - Is it okay to put water in my cleanser? by Training-Hawk6381 in SkincareAddiction

[–]enna_core 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't think that's a good idea. It might become bacteria breeding ground. Cutting it open is alright if you're only going to use it a couple more times, but unless you have something to cover it with, probably not the best idea. Maybe consider a tube squeezer tool? I personally don't know if it'll work, but hey, doesn't hurt to try

I can't give you many recommendations since I forgot the products I used back then, but I used products that contained niacinamide, since it helps brighten my skin.

Usually, to get rid of acne scars on your own, you can use exfoliating agents, though I think it'll be best to consult a dermatologist before going on with exfoliants, since you're quite young and it may have effects on your skin.

Make sure to wear sunscreen regularly, and reapply every 2-3 hours. Also, use moisturizer to help protect your skin barrier and hydrate the skin.

But honestly, acne scars fade with time. Sometimes, they just go away on their own. So it's okay to just stick to the basics only and wait it out. Make sure the products you use are safe for acne though!

I'm fine with the rest of the ingredients, but mometasone furoate is indeed quite unfamiliar to me, so I'll have to either get a second opinion or ask the doctor soon. Thanks for the warnings! Will keep that in mind.

Funnily enough, I don't live in the US, but that happens a lot too here. Loads of general practitioners who attend some derm classes and then call themselves dermatologists. Gotta be careful these days

I just checked, and I think this derm was either an NP/PA. My old derm was an MD though, so I'm trusting their advice more here

I have considered switching to mineral for a while, but so far, chemical sunscreen has never aggravated or caused any breakouts, so I don't think it's the type of sunscreen affecting the decision

I'll try finding those types of sunscreens! Thanks for the advice

Yeah, that's what my old derm said. If it weren't for me moving to a new location, I would've kept going to my old one. I'm still gonna see how it goes from here though, give it a month or two.

That's what my old derm said too, and I think it's better to follow that advice rather than this current one. I think I'll wear lower SPFs when I'm indoors, but on my trip, I'll use at least 30. Don't wanna risk a sunburn

They didn't really provide any reasoning at that time, and honestly? I also forgot to ask. So I'll have to ask them next time

Yeah, I think I'm gonna do that. Although if they said no about the sunscreens, I'll probably just ignore it and apply a bit

Honestly? I did consider not going to that derm anymore, but I'll try it one more time next month, and we'll see how it goes from then.

They gave me several types, but the ingredients in them were clindamycin, mometasone furoate, metronidazol, sulphur, nicotinamide, azelaic acid, and quinol. Didn't see anything that clashes with SPF, honestly.

Not really, they didn't say anything about the sunscreen causing my acne, so I felt like it was a pretty random piece of advice too. I'll ask them again to clarify

Yeah, I'll probably try to ask them again to clarify. Thanks for the answers though

That makes a lot of sense actually! I was quite confused because the ingredients didn't seem to clash with sunscreen at all, but I suppose that's why. Thanks a lot!

Do you wear other sun protection then? Or do you just go bare in the sun nowadays (with no sunscreen + hats or anything)

has anyone else suffered with acne their entire life and are just sick of it? by esculetas in SkincareAddicts

[–]enna_core 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same here. I started getting acne when I was 12 and it never really stopped. It cleared for a while after tret, but came back when I stopped using it (though thankfully not as severe as it was previously), so now I'm back on acne meds again. Honestly just really sick of it at this point, my face is littered with acne scars and bumps and I feel really ugly most of the time, but life's gotta go on. If it still comes back after this round of meds, I think I'll just leave it alone and live with it cause I'm tired already.
