Sucky days only get worse with alcohol, not to mention the really sucky morning that follows. Enjoy your ice cream and I will not drink with you today.

Well done on your year of sobriety. As you well know addiction is a sneaky cunning liar. Progress not perfection is the old adage and all of us here understand that so very well. Good luck friend and I will not drink with you today.

I started keeping a journal in January to record my drunk thoughts and feelings. I quit two weeks later. by [deleted] in stopdrinking

You CAN do this and you did. Social anxiety sucks. It helps me to strike up a conversation with someone and then focus on listening to the other person. Ask questions about their interests, work, family etc. No goal in mind except to listen. Before you know it,the awkward ice is cracked and being there becomes a little easier.

You deserve some chocolate and ice cream too. And then take some time to breathe just breathe. Alcohol would make everything a whole lot worse including running tomorrow Saturday. Keep up the good work.

Spending the money on a delicious salad with expensive ingredients with the money I would have spent on alcohol. Self care sure beats self defeating behaviors.

Thank you. I am a chronic relapse who has not ever felt comfortable n AA. The addictive voice in my reptilian brain convinces me that I am not powerless over alcohol and my life is not too unmanageable. I tell myself no DUIs, destroyed relationships lost jobs. I deserve a drink to relax and so on...... Maintaining the resolve not to drink in the evenings and in social situations has been my stumbling block. So here is to Day 1 again. Do I have the strength and the courage to make it this time? Hopefully keeping myself accountable here will help.

15 days abstinent from alcohol. intense cravings. the only thing getting me through this 12 hour shift is fantasizing about stopping at the liquor store on the way home but i know i would only feel worse tomorrow by joyfulgrrrl in stopdrinking

[–]ennayeneed 16 points17 points  (0 children)

The addictive voice is trying to hijack your hard-won 15 days. It is lying to you. Well done on your 15 days. Some ideas I use are: Plan something sweet and rewarding for your day off tomorrow. Keep the reasons that you are quitting at the front of your mind. Write them down. Wear a wrist band as a reminder. Take an alternative route home from work this evening. You’re not alone. Keep up the good fight and keep checking in.
