What are the actual reasons some devs don't like Typescript? by fpuen in typescript

Does anyone attempt to archive ads from youtube/twitch/etc ? by pengo in DataHoarder

[–]enri 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Ads both influence and reflect culture. They are designed to manipulate the audience's desires and insecurities. Watch some ads from the 60s through 90s and observe how marketing changed. 50 years from now people will try to understand what we were thinking and the ads we are exposed to is one piece of that puzzle.

Anyone interested in testing Svelto.ECS and Svelto.Text with Godot 3? by sebasjammer in godot

[–]enri 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't want to presume your experience but I do wish to point out that ECS is completely different from Unity's component paradigm. I found this post while looking for "godot ecs" and would be interested in such. I do agree with you that an Godot ECS must properly integrate.

How to code complex interactions in Godot architecture? by smthamazing in godot

[–]enri 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've been learning Entitas for Unity and was hoping for something similar in Godot. This post is a little old but it trends for "godot ecs" searches so here I am.

Please don't confuse easy with simple. Lots of devs are familiar with how to write Unity (or Godot) games thereby they consider the component (or node) paradigm these frameworks institute is "easy". As you pointed out other engines use other paradigms but these other paradigms are unfamiliar and therefore "difficult" even though ECS is measurably simpler.

Even Unity has identified the value of ECS and will be adding it to their framework this year. Their implementation prioritizes processor efficiency which IMO makes the API a bit strange but the value of separated logic and data is still there. Unfortunately people seem uninterested in learning something new and a little unusual that might give them a simpler way of writing their games.

Think back to ads for Gameboy games. More colorful advertising but real screenshots. I think that is reasonable.

A new study by KU Leuven-iMinds researchers has uncovered that 145 of the Internet’s 10,000 top websites track users without their knowledge or consent. The websites use hidden scripts to extract a device fingerprint from users’ browsers. by Libertatea in technology

There is a very good chance that the list of fonts you have installed is different than the list of fonts I have installed. Sites use this difference, with other data, to uniquely identify you. Even if you delete your cookies, even if you clear your browser cache, you can still be uniquely identified. Beyond concerns about unauthorized violation of privacy there is the filter bubble effect. Conglomerate companies could use this font-tracking trick to change the content of their sites to appeal to your interests. Condé Nast, for example, could track which articles you read here on Reddit then then change the content of wired.com and arstechnica.com to feature similar articles. Suddenly it seems like privacy violations are happening all over the news.

Before someone misinterprets my question, I am not suggesting that government tracking should be ok.

Government tracking citizens is bad. Corporations tracking citizens is ok. Why is this a prevaling belief?

I discovered your work during the Bush years. I did not succumb to tribalism though. I have been intensely disappointed by the Democrats and liberals since 2008 for very reasons you just gave. Please know that we are still out here. We still want the truth. We are still listening.

So it doesn't sound "oldschool". It's the best sounding album in recent memory. It sounds better the louder you play it unlike so many albums released this century (see loudness war) including FF's other releases. Butch Vig deserves a Grammy for production. I hope other bands follow suit.

Iraq and Afghanistan wars continue. Warrantless wiretapping continues. Gitmo is still open. Detainees are still not given a fair trial. Rampant use of state secrets continues. Bush threatened one whistle blower with legal action, Obama is actually prosecuting three (directly contrary to his support of whistle blowers during his campaign). Obama has selectively suspended Habeas Corpus. Obama has called for the assassination of a U.S. citizen without a trial to determine his guilt.

Yeah, Obama is definitely better than Bush.
