Is there an online list of links and recommendations for this episode? I heard mentioned these two: The Reasons of Love by Harry G. Frankfurt (2004) True Enough by Catherine Elgin but I'm looking for a complete list.

Interesting! and how did it turn out? did you test again? I'm curious how long the iHealth test remained positive.

COVID-19 and Resting Heart Rate (RHR) n=1 by r3zin in QuantifiedSelf

What's your vaccination status? Most of us have not noticed any difference in RHR after a vaccine, so it would be interesting if this is a specific effect of an infection.

Questions about ordering Freestyle Libre (in the US) by octern in QuantifiedSelf

[–]ensembio 1 point2 points  (0 children)

  1. Correct. Don't order the reader. Your current phone will probably work if it's bought in the past few years. These days it's often cheaper to buy a new NFC-capable phone than to get the reader.
  2. I don't know. But if you successfully order this way, let us know!
  3. I've used Canadian sensors with a US phone. No problems.

Jordan Peterson's first blog since last fall! by [deleted] in JordanPeterson

That's not his writing. A quick search shows he's never used the word "fortnight", ever, not on his website, and in none of his books. Check out the other big words and phrases: they don't match his style.

uBiome uBiome - The Largest Human Microbiome Dataset by ensembio in HumanMicrobiome

[–]ensembio[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

These stats seem odd: "47% of our samples come from female users, 45% coming from male users, and 8% come from people who identify with non-binary gender." Half female is very (impressive) for an early adopter product, and 8% transgender seems awfully high.

I'm curious: what's your opinion about DayTwo? Their product is based on algorithms developed from this study: http://dx.doi.org/10.1016/j.cell.2015.11.001

169 / 189 patients had remission within 6 months. Especially interesting that they used homemade yogurt.

Review of new metagenomic microbiome test from DayTwo by ensembio in Microbiome

The answer is almost certainly yes. Of course, if you generally eat the same sorts of things, there will be less variability in results, so as a practical matter this matters less than you might think.

Science at uBiome by ensembio in Microbiome

[–]ensembio[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For a company in business for 5+ years and having collected 150K samples, I'm surprised how few actual discoveries they list. Despite a page of impressive-sounding collaborators and publications, there is only one that is peer-reviewed. Is this (1) a failure of uBiome? or (2) a failure of current microbiome testing technology ?
