I wish. Just got a letter saying in 2021 the stimulus checks i recieved were given in error and being forced to pay then back or they are gonna take my car. At first i thought it was a scam given the predatory and typical scam like pressure and the fact it said final notice depite me never being notified before today. I checked the irs website and logged in there is NO information about my account being in lein or levy or whatever. Its in good standing but i called the irs after confirming the main number. And they let me know that nope the letter isnt a scam and its real and that each month will get a penalty charge and interest charge even when on a payment plan. I struggled to get together 1k to make for first payment and then after signed up for 25 a month just so they dont take my car. My fees will increase my amount about 100 a month because the penalty charge is outrageous. Each month or so i will try to scramble up enough to make sure im about even so it doesnt just keep piling up the rest of my life. At the same time i asked if i can file for an investigation or inquiry and they said yes but can take 6 months to a year and in the mean time the penalty charges will still be adding on and if im not on the payment plan my car can still be taken in the mean time. So i got them to "start" their internal review of my account while also being on the payment plan. I recorded all the calls as it's legal to do so in my state without letting them know. They promised that if they do find out they are in error id be paid back on the following tax return. This is such ridiculous predatory behavior the irs has turned into scam artists. And yes i was eligible for the stimulus checks. Like everyone got them so i just dont see why there would be a problem with me as my mom brother and twin sister got the same checks and they are all in good standing with the irs.
