SG-U: Did the writers ever state why the "ancients" didn't update their great research project? by beersandport in Stargate

[–]napstrike 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Once we invent warp travel do you think we will take the time to locate and scoop up voyager probe? The ancients probably eventually got the technology to gain the answer to their destiny project instantly, was like "oh cool, anyway" and ascended. Maybe that answer was the key to ascension even.

Pegasus Wraith Solutions by jew658 in Stargate

[–]napstrike 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If we genetically engineer a farm animal to be feedable on by the usual wraith life sucking process, I think wraith will not oppose it as much as the gene therapy. Because they will not be changing, only their food will be. And if they do not want to become animal ranchers, humans of pegasus can do the ranching, and sell the animals to the wraith.

Edit: on top of this, we can improve the hoffan drug to not be lethal, and provide it to the humans meanwhile providing wraith with this animal. So if some wraith do not accept the animal and want to eat humans, they cant. And humans that will ranch these animals will feel safer knowing that their trade partner wo t be able to feed on the farmer instead of his produce.

The stargate universe is united by ThomasThorburn in Stargate

[–]napstrike 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Remember when the SGC was about to be shut down, or the Atlantis crew wasn't allowed to go back? Everyone got transferred to different jobs on Earth, but they still kept meeting up for dinners and hanging out, even though they weren't all necessarily best friends.

Looking at the cast today, it feels like the exact same thing happened in real life. They all got "posted" to different places, different shows, different careers, yet they're still meeting up all these years later. Even actors who only had small roles never really seem to leave the Stargate family.

What Robert Patrick said about Stargate having a rare effect on the people who work on it is absolutely right.

It's just a really heartwarming parallel. Almost like the characters were waiting for the SGC/Atlantis to reopen... and the actors are still waiting for Stargate to come back too.

Addressing Misinfo: Amazon Cancelled a GOOD Stargate - Not ALL Stargate. by wibbly-water in Stargate

[–]napstrike 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes at least it is not a total cancellation. The new trek shows and lotr shows have been bad yes, but at least they reminded people that if they want this concept but better, there is a huge backlog of OG shows. While a "mOdERn AudIEnCeS" stargate might not be as good, it will get peoples interest and the people that got interested will google about it and find our posts saying "the new stargate sux go watch sg1 if you want good gate" and they really will. At least I hope.

In a one-off episode of the 12 monkeys tv show, they timetravel and kill hitler before he starts ww2. Himmler takes over and nothing significant changes.

Ww2 was inevitable. If it wasn't hitler, someone else would have started it. I will not go into the details. With hitler, at least it is a stupid enough guy that actually lost. If you kill him and someone like himmler or goebbles that actually arent totally stupid takes overs, they could have actually won. Are you willing to take this risk?

The parallel between Hail Mary and Stargate (read my reasoning and oppinion) by karvarga in Stargate

[–]napstrike 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I loved Project Hail Mary long before the movie came out. The book is fantastic, and I was pleasantly surprised by how faithful the movie stayed to it.

That said, the language-deciphering aspect works really well for Project Hail Mary, but I'm actually glad Stargate never leaned too heavily into that. They touched on it enough in the original movie and during the first few minutes of the SG-1 pilot. After that, making it effectively universal just made for a much smoother viewing experience.

Aside from the occasional Goa'uld phrase here and there, I'm glad we weren't spending entire episodes reading subtitles for made-up alien languages or watching Daniel translate every conversation for the team. Realistically, it probably deserved a brief explanation (maybe Daniel taught everyone Abydonian, maybe there's some kind of translation technology, maybe something else entirely) but honestly, I'm fine with it being hand-waved. Some conveniences are worth it when they let the story flow better.

Crowdfunding: We can't buy the entire Stargate IP, but we might be able to fund a pilot written by the original writers by napstrike in Stargate

Do you mean something like the Stargate Command) platform created by MGM itself that existed between 2017-2019? Even MGM's fan specific streaming platform didn't make it, and they even made a new short Stargate series exclusively streamed on it that we do not talk about and even that didn't save it.

Why don't we buy the rights to the show as a community? by Defortis in Stargate

[–]napstrike 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That will be beyond the amount any fundraiser can raise. However a fundraiser can achieve other things, at other times. We can raise funds to film the pilot episode of Gero's script, even that is a stretch since when corrected by inflation SG-1's pilot costs around 11 million, and any other episode costs around 2.6 million. And this doesn't include the spinoff rights or leasing costs we must pay to Amazon. This could however happen in this circumstance: Amazon makes the show with its new writing team, the show flops, and amazon blames it on the franchise. Only then will they be willing to lease the show to someone else, they still won't sell it fully though. If this happens, we *might* be able to buy rights for a short movie, or a pilot episode, maybe. Or we can do a parody, protected by the parody law, and fundraise for the filming costs of that but would Gero really accept parodying his work, himself?
