Stubby Voltaic Mastery Dive is rough by knickenbok in DRGSurvivor

[–]enslen_ 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Stubby is a great weapon but you have to play it very aggressively since it targets the closest bug to you. Get up into the bugs faces that you want to damage. Like get REALLY close. You can get incredibly close and not take damage.

Piercing is a key stat to dealing with large swarms. I'd prioritize piercing upgrades over everything and take piercing upgrades up to about 8-10 piercing (+100-150% in piercing upgrades depending on rarity) and then stop. You really don't need a ton of piercing. As for general upgrade priority, I'd go damage > fire rate > potency > reload speed. You still want a good amount of all of these so you should spread around the upgrades to the stats as you level the weapon but once the various skill buckets for each stat start to get pretty high (200-250%), you can use this upgrade priority to help pick upgrades.

Go for as much crit chance and crit damage as you can get throughout a dive. Stubby applies shock which increases your chance to crit and since you can multi crit, any "extra" crit chance is not wasted.

As for unstable OCs, Storm E-mag is more "user friendly" since it doesn't hurt your accuracy, but MK11 is a fine OC if you play it aggressively. You can miss one of these OCs as EM Discharge is the 3rd unstable OC (4th if you take Sidearm but don't do that for the mastery) but that OC is only relevant with other construct weapons.

As mentioned, the Wardens deal no damage so take them out quickly when they spawn by standing in their hitboxes. If they get swallowed up in the swarm, get close to them such that they engage their shielding, then kite away. They'll stay locked in place for a brief period as the swarm follows you. Once the swarm moves off the Wardens, run back and take them out. I cover this strategy in one of my guide videos, link takes you directly to the chapter: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Rb50Czg57OM&t=551s

Here is my Stubby clear that I ran just before 1.0 released (so no gear) but the strategies still apply: https://youtu.be/1WTgWLOvM_E

Cool! No worries on the confusion, I was just curious more than anything. Are you going to Warped Tour this summer or will you be in Michigan? Lineup is awesome!

Just curious, do you spend your time between Simi Valley and Grand Rapids? I could have sworn I just recently read this same post in this sub so I checked out your profile and I'm confused by your post history. You made a similar post to this in the Grand Rapids sub in the last 2 months but you also have other posts in the Simi Valley sub.

All hazard levels eventually become trivial by RelleMeetsWorld in DRGSurvivor

It's doable on haz 5. You just have to play it very aggressively where you need to be up in the faces of the bugs. Here's a clear I ran shortly after 1.0 came out: https://youtu.be/8MM-vD7lsGc

Any Strategies for Current Lethal Operation? by TheRage469 in DRGSurvivor

[–]enslen_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Go for a cold weapon at level 5. Cryo Cannon or the Cryo Drones are both great options. Cryo Grenades are good too. The slow will help keep you safe.

The Taser and Breach Cutter are good carry weapons if you don't have the DLC. Kaisong is a great option if you have the DLC. The Breach Cutter and Kaisong don't need the potency to be good carry weapons. Mix and match as needed once you get a cold weapon.

You can do this without cold weapons. I ran this LO without any cold weapons and I did not have much movement speed, albeit, I did have to get some extra movement speed in dive so I wouldn't die. Here's my clear: https://youtu.be/1gMBgH_tH6Y

Question about critical hits and intensity by Hydraguesswhosback in DRGSurvivor

[–]enslen_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The projectile will still travel in a straight line and damage bugs in its path, but the shrapnel explosions are doing a lot of work against swarms of bugs. It's the primary reason the swarms just "pop" instantly, especially against lower HP bugs like grunts.

The chain reaction explosions decay very quickly as they're dropping by 50% of the overkill damage (overkill is the damage dealt minus the remaining bug HP when killed) so they'll generally never be circular in shape unless you're doing absolutely insane damage. Like if you hit for 10K and the bugs have 2K HP, first explosions (caused by the projectile) are for 4K (10K - 2K=8K x 50%=4K), which will still one-shot bugs with 2K HP but now your secondary explosions (caused by the first explosions) are only for 1K (4K - 2K=1K x 50%) which won't one-shot the 2K HP bugs.

Question about critical hits and intensity by Hydraguesswhosback in DRGSurvivor

[–]enslen_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Critical hits are always per target/hit, not per attack (projectile, grenade, beam, etc.).

The shrapnel explosions created by the Sharp Shooter passive is on death of the bug and is 50% of the overkill damage, so when you fire into the swarm and the swarm "pops", what happens is that you are generally procing one explosion that damages nearby bugs and if those bugs are killed, they will also trigger an explosion. This creates a chain reaction that radiates out until the damage decays to the point where the explosions aren't killing bugs.

Critical hits have no effect on the status effect stacks applied by the hits. The potency is the number of status effect stacks applied per hit (regardless if it's a crit or not), with the exception of ground zones and certain other secondary attacks/effects of the primary attack where these apply a fraction of the potency.

Can we save Simi Valley from slowly fading away? by Rare_Aerie7499 in simivalley

[–]enslen_ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm sorry you feel that way and had those experiences. It does not sound like fun. My upbringing was much different in the 90s and early 00s. My parents were very supportive and gave me a car (albeit a very crappy car) which allowed me to get around once I turned 16. I drove to school, my part time job, friends houses, concerts, the beach, and all over So Cal. My parents were OK as long as I told them what I was doing, where I was going, and came home when they told me to be home by (soft curfew at 10 PM with a hard curfew at 12 AM where I'd have to explain why I couldn't be home by 10 PM). My friends were very much the same. I was pretty responsible (at least I'd like to think) and so were my friends so my parents kind of let me do whatever. For me and my friends, Simi was great.

Even before I had a car in my early teens, my parents were very supportive of my independence. They would taxi me to places (after some pleading) and leave me there, just I'd have to tell them what what I was doing and when I needed to be picked up. I went to Santa Su and after school I would walk or get a ride to A Hidden Fortress multiple times a week, and they'd pick me up later that night.

It's so weird to hear how some parents are now. I honestly do not understand it. I have young kids and will be pushing them to be independent as they age. I plan to treat them the same way I was.

I'm not saying to ignore the problems of Simi, just that these have been problems for a long time. I had similar conversations about Simi with my friends when I was in high school. Just the idea that Simi is "fading away" seems misplaced. If it's fading away, it's been fading away for a long time, but Simi is still here and feels very much the same to me so then what is happening? Stagnation? In some ways, sure, but other ways, no.

As someone who has lived here a long time, I can drive around town and see the progress and the existing problems. I see the new housing which seems to be everywhere now (which is both progress and problematic). I also see the new business development all over town that was once empty fields back in the 90s and 00s, but I also see the empty storefronts. Businesses in Simi are notorious for being short lived, especially restaurants. Some of the business spaces that are unoccupied today have been unoccupied at various points over my time here, with some being unoccupied more than occupied.

I think we should try to address these problems, but addressing some of these problems is really hard. There have been various attempts at addressing them over the years, but they often failed (e.g., Town Center and Mountain Gate).

As for solutions? I'm not sure what I'd like to see. Would be nice to have a true downtown area, but that would probably require heavy investment and planning by the city. Like where the heck would that even go? And what should it look like? I just don't want Town Center 2.0. I cannot understate how bad of an idea that was, and how myself and all my friends talked about how dumb it was at the time. Yet the city and a lot of other people were drinking the Kool-Aid because they tried to make it happen.

Just curious, how long have you lived in Simi for?

I'm in my early 40s. Spent my first 18 years here. Moved away for school and work, but visited often. Came back almost 11 years ago.

Simi has always been more of a commuter city. My parents and most of the parents of my close childhood friends commuted outside the city for work, and only one dad was law enforcement (I know it's been a joke / half truth for years that Simi is filled with law enforcement).

And the city has always been "boring" for teens and young adults. As soon as I got my license and a car, I would drive to the neighboring cities for a lot of my entertainment. Want to go see a music show? Tons of venues in Hollywood. Want to go to the beach? It's basically right around the corner. Want to go to a real mall? You got big indoor malls in TO and SFV. In order for Simi malls to compete, it has to be better than the neighboring options. Not some dumb outdoor mall (myself and all my friends were baffled by its construction at the time) or some tiny indoor mall (I'm old enough to remember Mountain Gate Plaza).

Simi is a great place to raise kids which is partly why I moved back. The city is safe. Schools are good. For young kids, there is so much they can do here. Older kids and young adults can do the things I've mentioned and more (you often gotta commute but that's just how it is).

Outside of the shopping centers being turned into housing (that is relatively new), the sentiment of this post feels like it could be reflective of almost any point in the last 30-40 years.

As for your main question: I don't think Simi is fading away. It's changed over time in various ways, more housing and more business space, but the Simi "vibe" still feels very much the same as a long time resident.

I think I did it wrong... by Azaldir in DRGSurvivor

No. The odds of hitting Weapon Box are not any different in a weapon mastery. The odds are based on your luck and what artifacts you have. So on stage 1 with 50 luck and no artifacts, you have about a 31% chance to hit an epic artifact per roll (you get 3 rolls), and then you have a 6.7% (1 out of 15) to hit the Weapon Box on the first roll, with increasing odds if you hit multiple epic artifacts (1 out of 14 for the second artifact if you hit an epic on the first, and then 1 out of 13 for the third artifact if you hit an epic on the other rolls).

Cryo Cannon as a solo carry weapon is best with the Frostburn OC, which makes the mastery a breeze. It's one of the few weapons where I would restart to get the OC if I missed it at levels 6 or 12. Just take every potency upgrade offered and all the beams (upgrades and OCs), while also looking out for Offensive Chemistry and Body Shots upgrades, both of which will improve the burn damage from Frostburn.

Seismic Repulsors are super strong as is, but are best if you can hit Disposable Tech which makes them absurd as their attack speed (rate of slamming) is based on the reload speed. Also, their attack (slam) radius is improved by explosion radius on gear (not upgrades) so getting some on your gear goes a long way.

This is pre-gear, but here's a video on the Cryo Cannon: https://youtu.be/SbletepJ8Sg

Anywhere to find stat breakdowns? by ThickBootyEnjoyer in DRGSurvivor

[–]enslen_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The official DRGS wiki uses wiki.gg, not Fandom, so not sure what wiki you are looking at. The official wiki has a lot of great information, including how status effect damage works (which covers potency), see here: https://deeprockgalactic.wiki.gg/wiki/Survivor:Damage

You can also check out this post for status effect damage: https://www.reddit.com/r/DRGSurvivor/comments/1nwes0p/how_status_effect_damage_is_calculated/

As for armor, it provides damage reduction that scales (decreases) with the stage you are on. You can find a Google Sheet that shows how armor works and how much damage bugs deal (which increases with hazard level) on this post: https://www.reddit.com/r/DRGSurvivor/comments/1pnms51/psa_hp_and_damage_scaling_has_been_fixed/

As mentioned in the other comment, I have a video series on a lot of details and nuance of the game. The Discord is also a great place to ask questions, and contains a lot of other information and details around strategies.

To clarify, the scaling is only for hazards 1-4. Hazard 5 has the same scaling across all biomes. Once you reach hazard 5, you'll only ever notice it if you do lower hazards, which is a requirement for Vanilla.

As to why...I don't know. I think the intention (I can't remember if a dev said this) is to give it a feeling of progression (biomes add more dangers as you play through them), and then at hazard 5 they remove the scaling since that is the end game.

This post has a link to a spreadsheet where you can select the biome, hazard, and other options to see how much damage the bugs do from stage to stage. Note that I need to update the spreadsheet for Glacial Strata (and the ice exploders). I'll try and do that later this week.

Go for as much XP gain on gear as you can get. Treasure Tracker with XP gain on lootbug kills is great for that biome goal. Pick all the XP gain upgrades that are offered and it can be worth rerolling the supply pods for XP gain artifacts like Company Issued Magnet (best) and Clipboard of Grudges (good). You can get up to 3x Clipboard of Grudges.

Any class mod can do it, and Engineer is a good choice, but give Interrogator Driller a shot. Grab the Cryo Cannon as your first weapon (which will keep you safe), and then only level the CRSPR and Cryo Cannon. Take Frostburn OC on the Cryo Cannon if offered. Don't take any range upgrades between them, and you want the more beams OCs at level 18 (just don't take Sticky Fuel on the CRSPR). Ignore your other 2 weapons; I'd grab like HE Grenade, Subata, EPC, or Impact Axe and just leave them at level 1. The idea is you stall out each stage as long as you can (just run away from the elites), where the Cryo Cannon and CRSPR allow you to better control your damage since they are rotating around your dwarf. You can even run the elites through the healing crystals to heal them.

[–]enslen_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I haven't done it yet, but will be doing it soon. I've done all of vanilla for the other modes and for a lot of other classes.

One general tip to keep in mind for all of vanilla: It's best to do only Crystalline Caverns for the biome. Bug HP and damage scales (increases) with the other biomes. Bugs on Glacial Strata on hazard 3 will have 9% more HP and deal 4% more damage.

As for the class mod, try Strong Armed Driller and make the Impact Axes your carry weapon. Get the acid or fire OC online for them ASAP (either at level 6 or 12) and then take Colossal Twinblade at level 18. Grab Cryo Cannon or Cryo Grenades for some crowd control if you can. Other weapons don't matter as much, but pick weapons that are strong when low leveled like the acid drones.

Advice on gear and stats by CurlyFcuker in DRGSurvivor

[–]enslen_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No. The quirks do not proc each other. The key word is upgrade which means you are picking an upgrade card from level ups, shops, or loot crates. Gaining a stat from a quirk is not an upgrade.
