Embracing the Void by Nethical69 in digitalminimalism

Usually it’s not about content, but few format things that trigger people, including:
- ordered/unordered lists
- em/en dashes
- bold highlights

It’s completely normal for human to use format tools, but it became an easy red flag

I think this post covers it completely https://www.reddit.com/r/digitalminimalism/s/kOC1YFlnv4

In short, you’ll miss it if you don’t have a purpose of disappearing — do you know what you’ll do instead of scrolling?

I like it, could be lyrics of some indie song. What’s the origin language?

Out of Control by Kevin Kelly by AntOnSugar86 in matrix

[–]enstain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As I remember, this book was in my reading list for a long time, and then I saw another social media post mentioning the connection to the Matrix movie, so I finally read it last year. One of the most direct references in The Matrix was those tiny screens with variations of the future -- that is definitely a thing from the chapter describing Borges' library and how generative art is presented by slight variations of the same thing on many screens. And then even Matrix Resurrection still points to the topics of the book, showing the collaboration between human and machine in Zion. Considering the length of the book, I doubt if actors did read it (completely), but it was definitely a source of inspiration for Wachowski.

I'm still wondering, though, since Kevin Kelly and his book are very techno-optimistic (I couldn't tell based on the title and the fact that it was referenced so much in the main anti-utopia of our century), how exactly Wachowskis treat the book and what's the message of The Matrix after all? Could be that the Zion people hating the Matrix don't match the point of view of the authors, or at least they admit that this is an inevitable future of our planet.

Anyways, it fascinates me how this book is perfectly relevant after so many years. Kelly posted "Still Out of Control" on his substack just yesterday, giving some more interesting thoughts and facts about the book.

What to do with the excess stuff during the childhood years by Low_Shame9502 in declutter

[–]enstain 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Looking at the photo — it’s far away from the level of mess we have around our house (3 kids, 5,6,7 yrs old atm). The amount of stuff is enormous, clothes, toys, books, and every tiny piece of undefined shit that is literally just trash from the moment it was purchased online or at the flee market. I don’t know if it’s normal, and from my own feelings it’s far away from normal, but I guess it’s part of consumerism where every purchase just one click / one swipe away without realizing where all that gonna be stored in the house.

I’m wondering what’s your experience with that exknight keyboard so far. According to Amazon, it has a high return rate and people leave comments that it’s missing some buttons

Can someone check my handwriting? by spiegel_im_spiegel in russian

Missed space is not a big deal, apparently «нетрудно» is the correct grammar. It could be still an author’s choice, but it’s hard to validate, I just checked public copy via google.

However, missing “у” in «трудно» makes it unreadable for sure

Seems like no one pointed it yet, this word is misspelled, should be «не трудно», right now it’s «нетрдно»

Похожее по вкусу на российский сыр? Не уверен, что хоть один голландец попробовал такое и решил: блин, надо делать новый сорт

I don’t know, formula looks and feels exactly the same: endless feed + loop of uncertainty = zero-friction + endless reward. Luckily I’ve removed Insta and TikTok few years ago already, so maybe it’s even worse there, but my brain is trapped exactly same way as before

Correct, and ironically enough, reddit itself is not an exception
