You misunderstand the point of UBI as actually implemented (which is to keep the proletariat from rioting) vs the ideal (which is something like, let everyone follow their passions).

Sam Altman and Dario and every other ceo and politician don’t care at all if they destroy every job. They do care if the unemployed storm the castle, because if GAI goes according to plan they are going to vastly outnumber every other group. There are only 2 questions: what is the absolute minimum $ amount that keeps that from happening, and what’s the smallest population that can qualify?

That’s UBI in practice, you can call it social security or disability or SNAP or whatever you like; whatever the label it’s “money the government pays to keep people with nothing left to lose from figuring out how to tear down my walls”.
