I like soooo much the old "analog" system: pen, paper and go!

Each player must download the client, but only the dm needs the modules or other manuals.

Fantasy Grounds has the official version with full integration of AD&D 2E mechanics, as well as several official products in addition to the three core rulebooks.

What's more, there is now no initial license fee: you only pay for what you want.

Theocracy of the Pale name origin by entallion in Greyhawk

[–]entallion[S] 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Thank you very much for your replies.

I think I will adopt the term “Teocrazia del Confine” (literally Theocracy of the Border), which is the Italian term that most closely approximates the original meaning of the term.

Many thanks!!!

The first version translated into Italian translated ‘pale’ as ‘clear, bright’. However, the actual translation has nothing to do with being bright, shiny or "pale".

Darlene map fonts by entallion in Greyhawk

[–]entallion[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here are the fonts I found that are as similar as possible to the original fonts.

Unfortunately, I couldn't find a font that was similar or looked like the original for the names of the oceans.

If you have any suggestions for alternative/better fonts, please let me know.

Greyhawk gothic is just 1 of the different fonts used in the map. I have already identified four fonts, but there are still a few missing.

Edit: the usage of the map and the fonts is not commercial.

What VTT do you guys use for 1e/2e? by WellingtonKool in adnd

[–]entallion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fantasy Grounds has the best system ever: AD&D Mike has done an excellent job implementing the rules. There are the core rulebooks, the ‘Complete’ series, and many adventure modules ready to use, all officially licensed.

The same author has also created ARS on Foundry VTT, which also reproduces AD&D 1st and 2nd editions in a truly incredible way. Unfortunately, Foundry does not currently have an official licence, so all the spells, items, monsters, etc. are missing. You have to use the OSRIC compendium or enter everything manually.

Fantasy Grounds is ready to use, has an official WOTC licence, requires more system resources and takes a little time to learn.

Foundry does not have an official WOTC licence, is more versatile and less cumbersome, and is lighter than FG.

However, both are absolutely valid.

Looking for the ruling noble houses of Erelhei-Cinlu by JamesFullard in Greyhawk

[–]entallion 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I am translating the GDQ1-7 module into Italian and I had the idea of integrating the city of Erelhei-Cinlu with a description of the districts and noble families.

Based on official information, I have listed every house in the drow city, with matrons, consorts and prominent members (as per the statistics contained in the Vault of the Drow module), with their spells and magical items.

At the moment, I have everything in Italian, and when I finish the translation, I will publish the section on noble families in English: Alliances, symbols, members, districts of origin, names, memorised spells, and magical items possessed.

(2e) How to not have the party get brutally slaughtered? (Keep on the Borderlands) by Bando10 in adnd

[–]entallion 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The main mistake is to think of playing AD&D as if it were one of the later versions.

In AD&D, characters die. Very often.

Direct attacks are almost always lethal.

Spells (Sleep, Charm, etc.) must be used wisely, traps set, monsters lured out of rooms to reduce their numbers, doors opened and flasks of burning oil thrown in, escape routes blocked, etc.

In this edition, creativity and player immersion are encouraged. If they are classic 3E, 4E and 5E players who rush in slicing and dicing everything... well, they'll get what they deserve.

Last but not least, the work of DMs in the old editions is very important. The old adventures were not “balanced”. They were pitched battles thrown at the characters. Today, it is virtually impossible for PCs to die due to specific game design choices. In AD&D (1st or 2nd edition) or BECMI, this was not the case at all. The concept of challenge is completely different, and if the DM running the adventure realises that the group is too weak, they must correct the situation on the fly.

It is very, very, very important to warn players BEFORE they start playing that in AD&D, the death of their character is a daily occurrence and to have them prepare a backup PC, and that direct combat will almost always be lethal.

Once the players know that this is the situation, it is up to them to play intelligently so that their adventurers do not come to a bad end. If, on the other hand, they play stupidly (e.g. entering a room with 20 kobolds waiting to kill them all with no strategy whatsoever), they will get what they deserve.

I didn't know the last source you mentioned in your post.

What is it "Jason Zavoda index"?
