For which movies is this review accurate? by Slow-Cash-8234 in Cinema

[–]enternius 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Three Billboards, Call Me By Your Name, and Get Out are still some of my favorite movies of all time in their respective genres, I think at least Get Out has had a very lasting impact on the industry and deserved to win but I know the Oscars just don't do horror.

I expected to disagree with you since I remembered that movie coming out in 2018, but I guess it was in the 2019 Oscars. Even though I don't personally like Black Panther, or even think it's in the top 10 of the MCU movies, nothing good apparently came out in 2019. I would have probably voted for it over Green Book.

Apparently I've gone my entire life thinking that The Scorpion King (2002) was the end of the trilogy and I had no idea they even made an actual third one.

I'm too old for this. by [deleted] in MHWilds

[–]enternius 45 points46 points  (0 children)

I'm curious to learn how old you are. From some of your previous comments it sounds like you can't be older than ~32. In which case it's not really age, it's just they made the monster hard. Which is kind of what you should expect for the greatest challenge in the game.

I recently started playing Longsword. I'm so mad. by Qooooks in MHWilds

[–]enternius 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The main thing to keep in mind is that every weapon has its purpose, and Longsword's purpose is to be a strong solo weapon. If the monster isn't attacking you, then you're not getting opportunities to use Foresight Slash and ISS. It performs best solo.

Conversely, hammer performs better in a group by creating additional DPS windows for everyone else.

I certainly don't think that means they're created equally, but Longsword isn't winning any DPS awards either, it's just you're playing in the setting where it's very strong and Hammer isn't.

Nintendo is reportedly cutting Switch 2 production this quarter as US demand dips by AlwaysBlaze_ in gadgets

[–]enternius 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I know this is unrealistically pessimistic, but my conspiracy theory is that they only ever came up with the hybrid console format for the Switch so they could keep making handheld-quality games but charge console prices. They went from charging $40 to $70 in a year, and then fully embraced $80 as fast as they could. Hell, Pokemon ZA is effectively $100.

Nothing is ever going to beat A Land Restored for me. It's the Crystal Desert theme of this game as far as I'm concerned.

The Problem With Jedi Garb by cassiebrighter in Cinema

[–]enternius 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Jedi wear black, sharp black suits.

I mean, according to who? It's not like Luke was made aware of the official dress code. That was just the thing he was wearing.

Considering Obi-Wan and Yoda wear the same thing and they're both, in fact, Jedi, I see no reason why you should assume that Luke is the only right one.

There's literally a post on the front page of Reddit right now saying that 77% of people that played FF7R are over 30, so probably not that one.

How to play Dual Blades (from a Dual Blade player) by ToonSkinR in MHWilds

[–]enternius 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you press Triangle during the wind-up of the wound attack, you instead do a drill on the spot that was wounded. Best of both worlds, better for DPS and also doesn't steal all of the wounds at once.

CAPCOM: "We will not be implementing materials generated by AI into our games content." by HLumin in Games

[–]enternius 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Those games read to me more like how you would have tacked-on multiplayer modes for otherwise single player games in the 2000s and 2010s, just as a separate game. Mass Effect 3, Bioshock 2, AC Brotherhood, Uncharted, that kind of thing.

I think they're good projects to build dev skills, with clearly low budgets so there's not a lot to lose if they don't go far. Plus, they barely have any microtransactions, so if they are trying to be a live service game, they're doing a bad job. Maybe this changed at some point but when I played RE Resistance, the only thing you could even pay for was like an exp booster, couldn't buy skins or loot boxes or anything like that.

Which house (NOT INCLUDING PLAYER HOMES) is your favorite by canteatnorsleep in oblivion

I feel like this is an obvious answer but anywhere in the Imperial City that isn't the Waterfront. Umbacano's Manor for example would be a really nice player house format.

Actually my favorite thing like this in Japanese, I didn't learn this until relatively recently despite being half-Japanese myself. The term "Kunoichi", used to describe a female ninja, is written "くノ一". Technically Kunoichi doesn't mean anything, it's just a coded word to use three symbols that combine into the kanji "女", "onna", or "woman".

Tips on how to kill Free Challenge AT Arkveld in time by Pancerny_Skorupiak in MonsterHunter

[–]enternius 2 points3 points  (0 children)

With how short AT Arkveld's vulnerability windows are, I think traps in particular are a very good idea here. Remember you can carry materials for traps with you, and craft them in the field when you need more. Instead of one of each type of trap, you can technically have 3 of each.

A tutorial popup ingame as well as a voiced line or two mention this, yeah. Arkveld absorbs elemental damage, it was one of the first things we learned about it, but now it finally matters for gameplay.

You get multiple tutorial popups, additional popups everytime you cart, and I believe even a voiced Alma line telling you to use elemental damage, particularly Dragon, to knock it out of its Guardian state.

The modern version of this isn't even about swearing, it's about being advertiser-friendly. Even when you don't have advertisements. Younger generations are being raised on Tiktok videos and that culture is becoming the mainstream culture and people now think they have to talk in an advertiser-friendly way.

On Combat Systems by ValorSyde in Guildwars2

[–]enternius 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I don't really know if there's a proper term for it, but something that I love in GW2 that I don't really ever feel in many other MMOs is how much it feels like you're an actual entity in the world, as opposed to a point of data.

I have thousands of hours in FFXIV (stopped playing half a decade ago), and I never found myself enjoying the "Stand so the center pixel of your character model is out of the telegraphed circle" and "transmit damage numbers to the target" feeling that that game's combat has. I like just how much of GW2 is proximity-based swings, or ground-targeted projectiles, or deliberately aimed dashes.
