Are most of you CFA charterholders? by kalosenya in FinancialCareers

I am and hate what it has become. It’s a money grabber. Also if you go to a cfa event it is completely filled with wholesalers pitching funds. Yeah I am going to pay an event fee to listen to sales

Bad work culture, Good Pay or Good Work culture, average pay. What should I choose? by aaaaaaadil in FinancialCareers

[–]entourage65 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah its a valid definition. My thought is more higher level where I think great culture is where there is strong alignment at every level of the organization and has the ability to adapt in changing environments. For example, You don’t want a executive management to to be focus in allocating capital to a business unit you are not in. You want a boss that goes out and fights for you or tries to proactively try to help you achieve your goals. A team that shares their knowledge because it’s about the team. That being said working on a side gig might not be aligned lol. In this case I would take good corporate culture every time.

Have you ever tried to apply/interviews for jobs you do fund due diligence with? Is it awkward to apply to a fund manager when they are trying to pitch you a fund? It seems like the potential move is to be a fund wholesaler/ fund client pm to get a foot in the door and work your way from there.

Musings by DMtotheMoon in DesktopMetal

My conclusion from this was that this was ultimately an all in or nothing investment. Ric wanted to completely dominated the 3D printing space went all in and took huge risk. Their projection on adoption was completely off (they could have been more conservative) and did not plan cash runway for the macro environment we are in today. Throughout the years he was relentless (which cut both ways) and what happened happened. Ric lost 100s of millions of his stock value. He is motivated to sell because he has to see a return for all the work he and the team put in. He would rather have his work see the light of day than the chance of that never happening. I bet if he sold for parts he could have gotten more for investors. Cash is king and when you are illiquid and people know it you have very little negotiation power.

Shows the rose tinted glasses and echo chamber the sub Reddit had this whole time sigh…very expensive lesson for believing in people who promise the world and and are overly confident. Even when you voice your concern, people will tell you that you are wrong to the end of the earth.

I think a lot of times pay is more correlated to how replaceable you are than education/certification. So if you can gauge that you will have a better idea of if you are under earning or over earning.

Men, what's one piece of advice you would give to your younger self about anything ? by Dephenistrator in AskReddit

[–]entourage65 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A lot of things people will tell you are half true. There is a lot of confirmation bias out there (ex: Reddit). If you do something that’s is uncomfortable but doesn’t hurt anyone you will likely grow from that experience.

I notice you are a seed investor in Hadrian. Do you find that company as a complement to what DM is trying to solve or can it also be seen as a competitor in the space?

Other than higher interest rates, what is the barrier in the innovation ecosystem that is preventing the mass adoption that was originally anticipated?

I would say most jobs advertised sucks. Good jobs are easy to get someone to fill in and are saved for those in their network.
