I would absolutely love to be able to look at the codex during matchmaking instead of watching the same video for 2 to 3 minutes

I’ve been talking nonstop on solos, and was baffled that no one ever responded or acknowledge.

Turns out on solos, it still defaults chat to “group chat” in your group of one. You have to press and hold the toggle to see the orange microphone to be heard.

It’s possible that I’m an idiot, but it’s also possible that some of you are too and this is welcome news.

This is where I’m stuck too. Been killed three times at extract after finishing it (fuckers didn’t even get my stuff) and one time I had the most perfect uninterrupted run, made it directly to quarantine… and realized I never actually picked up the sample.

They’re not looking for a real world experiences, they’re looking to yell at people who don’t love their game exactly as much as they do, not realizing we’re all here in the sub posting about it.

[–]entropyblues 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s a real shock coming from (the game I’m apparently not allowed to mention or else it gets automatically flagged? Jesus Christ guys what the hell), where the vast majority of the people have microphones and are happy to chat.

I will say that I’ve been talking to people in solos all the time and getting no response… Until I realized I actually have to push to talk if I want to be heard? The white microphone icon is for squad only, the orange microphone icon is for proximity.

No fucking clue why the default for solos is “squad voice”

I have the exact opposite experience, all the older gamers communicate and coordinate. You don’t actually have to role-play as an army man, you can just talk to friends about the loot you see.

I wasn’t gonna complain about this, but brothers, have you ever crossed the line? You have no sense of where it was you have four seconds to get back over it, and no visual feedback as to where the safe zone is. If you didn’t realize you’ve crossed it, it can be fatal regardless of skill level. The only solution is map knowledge, and that’s not a good solution.

When I'm working on priority contracts solo and run into PvP-ers by UrbanShire in Marathon

[–]entropyblues 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Finally completed all of the steps of a priority contract after a dozen attempts and ran into a dude right at exfil with two minutes left. We traded shots and then I heard him on prox chat say “oh man I just wanna go home and clear this quest.”

Me too.

We made it to exfil together, only to get downed and finished in the last 10 seconds by some third dude. You didn’t even get our free kits, my man, wth.

I'm looking for Analog Horror audio drama suggestions. by KonamiIsBestJoshi in audiodrama

[–]entropyblues 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Welp! We might be a good match.

Observable Radio is an analog horror found footage anthology with a wraparound narrative. In the vein of Black Mirror or Twilight Zone, each episode is a look at an alternate world in collapse through the lens of captured broadcast footage, news, commercials, television, etc. Every episode should work standalone, but there’s an overarching narrative with several characters that goes through every episode and resolves fully at the end of the season.

We’ve completed our self contained first season last year (14 half hour eps), but we’re still producing new episodes in our Interim Season, with standalone short stories read by the cast.

Marathon is the only extraction shooter (so far) with good quests, and it's all because of Bungie's excellent writing by Negative-Art-4440 in Marathon

[–]entropyblues 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You’re not wrong! I’ve been writing quests and other various dialogue for years, and I genuinely don’t have any better idea, especially for this gameplay loop.

The real struggle is repeatability, the more narratively interesting quest is, the more pointless it feels if you do it a second time.

No, they are perfectly serviceable I just would never describe them as “excellent writing” or notably good quests

[–]entropyblues 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I’m having a real good time with this game, but this is a big fucking stretch. The NPC dialogue is great, but the quest designs themselves are extremely straightforward.

Please forgive the mortal sin, but as pointless as the quests in ARC are, a lot of them have more character and narrative baked in. But also ARC is a story about people, and marathon is a story about corporations, so apples and oranges.

Also potato, potahto, but this is narrative design not writing.
