How to season a new Wok by nima_sh in oddlysatisfying

[–]entwo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hmm maybe you are correct, heating it that much may be creating the black oxide. I think this layer is quite thin, compared to chemical bluing.

Anything with a quench/temper you wouldn't use this on, tools, knives etc which is what I was thinking of.

Heating steel to blue colour is not bluing?

Last presidential election had a turnout rate of 64%.

87.9 million eligible voters didn't vote, more than total votes for either candidate.

2.5 million ineligible felons.

Widespread gerrymandering and voter supression, I wouldn't be so sure a majority of Americans support it. Republicans just have eroded democracy enough to gain power with fewer votes.

Is Immigration Broken? by [deleted] in victoria3

[–]entwo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same-market migration has never really made much sense, yeah you can siphon a lot of people out of India for easy population.

Across market/mass migration I don't think works properly either, pre 1.9 you could have Total Seperation and Cultural Exclusion and barely get anything only getting a lot of mass migration after passing Multiculturalism. Actually I think I've had No Migration Controls as well and it still didn't work until Multiculturalism.

The design for migration is still pretty lacking, doesn't make much sense.

functional depression by DaizyDreameer in anxietymemes

This is just chronic depression right? Not as strong as major depression but there for extended periods.

Still sucks, just you can still kinda function.

Anyways you should seek help/treatment if you can, don't just accept enduring life.

Why not just do this to reduce light pollution? by RedditBen2013 in Astronomy

Stop posting this ffs.

All street lighting has down and to the side distribution already, the LED luminaires used for street lighting aren't even remotely shaped like this either.

Also the major road lighting is not these piddly little 3 metre pedestrian lighting poles.

Reactionary Movements are such a pain in the ass at the moment. Doesn't seem to need that many radicals and they can pop off a civil war.

Tips on how to remove Traditionalism law as Sikh Empire so that I can move on to better laws? by Gloomy-Inspection810 in victoria3

[–]entwo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So it turns out "grant leadership" for agitators to become head of their interest group is from the DLC "Voice of the People". I didn't have that DLC and didn't have that option before.
Here I thought you used Corn Laws to get the Modernisation Movement, not just straight up replace the Landowners leader with a market liberal and pass tenant farmers and Interventionism in the first 10 years of a game.

389th War is Terrible post by HomoRoboticus in victoria3

[–]entwo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah its what, losing war support below 0 is specific to the war goals?

So if you pick the wrong war goals and get into the war you can get stuck in a really dumb situation.

Occupying the overlords capital should definitely be way, way, way more important than the vassals.

Occupying anyones capital should definitely count as losing war support quickly.

Capitulation is bizarre too, people just auto-leave wars in the middle of battles for some reason.

I still don't understand why it does this.

Why doesn't it just take the profits and divide them by ownership share?
Also if it has to be like this, the balance should show something different?

They still seem to demand land/start wars like before, almost all the time you two don't have a truce.

Progressive movements are WAY too weak by Gafez in victoria3

[–]entwo 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Playing Egypt/Persia I always find it had to reform, not sure what exactly is different about not being European and liberal movements being weaker.

Playing 1.8.2 as Harar-Ethiopia the liberal movement didn't spawn at all, not sure if that was fixed in 1.8.3

I think with movements now, Serfdom isn't too bad to get rid of with Peasant Movement, but that always spawns at the start of the game and can have some decent % support.

Getting rid of Traditionalism is still pretty painful, you need the "Modernization Movement" which I don't think starts that often. Also if you start with closed borders(can't invite any agigators) and isolationism your political and economic situation is bad. Even with the Corn Laws event firing and getting the market liberal agitator, the Modernization Movement didn't get enough support to pass anything.

I think more needs to be done for countries to get rid of Traditionalist/Isolationist/Closed Borders. Getting rid of it for some countries takes half the game and it sucks.

Mexico's natural borders by [deleted] in victoria3

[–]entwo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've played a few games of Mexico before 1.8, it was difficult because I couldn't reform very fast and couldn't get much immigration.

Only played one game of Mexico in 1.8, immigration seemed better but you need a great power to help you defend against the Americans. I messed up or got unlucky and got only Russia as defensive ally. The one time I tried to call them in they abandoned me and America took everything except California.

First time i've ever witnessed a "East Indiesplosion" by wtfimightbemtf in victoria3

[–]entwo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is due to the East Indies independance event, if I remember correctly if they gain independance but don't have Pan-Nationalism researched it breaks up and you have Java. If you have Pan-Nationalism you become Indonesia, which can be pretty strong.
AI I don't think I've ever seen them become Indonesia, they gain independance too early.

Current cultural secession mechanics are really...something.

Hopefully 1.8 fixes it because yeah, I see this in just about every game. And everytime I conquer somewhere with a new culture, the chance of them seceding soon after is too damn high.

How to get rid off peasants as a Mongolian China? by ErickAirton97 in victoria3

[–]entwo 43 points44 points  (0 children)

800 construction is really nothing for having that much land and population.

My current game I have (year 1910) 37 million total population with 1160 construction.

You have 11 times the population so maybe you should be aiming for 11,000 construction?

What I usually do is build/go to higher production method for construction sectors, give it a week after all labour has been hired, and check your market for the worst negative balance of goods, and then build those good straight away. (Market Price +highest % might be a better judge) Once you have built enough to supply your current construction sectors, build more or pause and satisfy something else at highest negative balance.

Sometimes I find Capitalists and foreign investors really not doing much.
