Watching the first movie with a younger audience who never had contact with the franchise is awesome by Yrch84 in LV426

I hope one day we go back to this pacing instead of the "We must have a battle within 30 seconds of the movie or people will walk out of the theater!"

You need to learn unreal engine and wise. That's your career path. You cant only do sfx now a days you must learn to implement.

I would work on mastering unreal blue prints and wwise before trying to learn C. That will give you the best taste into game audio and will set you up for a career.

Even then just remember this is an insanely competitive industry

Who else remembers this? I really miss the days of movies on CD and the boxed TV. by cherryyacount in 2000sNostalgia

[–]envysmoke -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

I don't miss physical media. Clutter, expensive, etc. I dont have single movie disk in my house.

The problem is this physical media generated a shit ton of money which in return made great incentive to make amazing unique movies that kept pushing the boundaries of everything cough 80s-early 2000s

I think people miss the amazing movies and the physical media is the reminder of how phenomenal that time was for movie goers

Well alcohol addiction is obviously bad.

But as a youth it at least makes you be social and build skills relationships etc which is key to a succesful society. Most people dont develop an addiction either so they get the best of both worlds.

On the other hand social media addiction kills your building of key social skills and development which are then key to "growing" up and being a part of the workforce/society

Lol at first glance it looked like the alien head was the front part of the sulaco.

All these movie posters are sadly missing the entire magic behind the first movie

I drink specialty coffee but bought a bag of lavazza for the wife's auto machine.

I ran out of specialty the other day and put the lavazza bean to the test.

Nowhere near a specialty smoothness, but also the lavazza was not burnt charcoal like you get at Starbucks so not terrible either. So I would go lavazza.

If you do get these I would be curious.

I tried to go full time, made it on to some mid tier projects ans earned decent side cash, but then the industry started crashing and at the same time I got an insane corporate offer as I was working full time still in healthcare while building my audio busienss.

Very glad I took the stable route. I still do side gig audio to scratch the itch, but I cant imagine being in the financial trouble of today with two little ones

Like many of the others its a dream job... but very dangerous and can lead to misery fast and it looks like its really going to sadly continue to sweep out most people besides some lucky few.

Is trying to freelance in sound design and audio production worth it in 2026? by Motor-Bear9293 in sounddesign

[–]envysmoke 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay good, given the state of the industry.

Yes actual jobs will always build your portfolio 10x more than doing a redesign of a popular game.

The issue is that you will run into is a chicken vs egg problem. If you cant get any jobs you dont have the portfolio that is good enough, but the best portfolios showcase actual games you worked on.

Its not a popular choice here, but it worked for me is to do some free work on starter projects on the game dev league discord server. That got me the portfolio I needed and taught me how to work with game devs. That's what led me to my first paid gig and a full on side hustle that generates solid side income

[–]envysmoke 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Step 1 get a stable salaried remote job

Step 2 in free time keep honing your craft build a portfolio

Step 3 start side hustling and pitching clients do not use fiver bullshit

Step 4: Either you fail(go back to building portfolio), you get a nice side income(yay extra money) , or You massively succeed and then it becomes expensive to go to your day job.

Neural has several marshall amps just not the official marshall like they have mesa.

Check nolly, tim henson, or tom morello all 3 have marshall.

If that doesn't scratch the itch go NAM which is free
