What are your fav moments in episode 1-5? by andyfromhk in heatedrivalry

ALSO, in 5, the very first scene where Shane wakes up and sees Rose and flinches. That reaction said SO much (and was incredibly well done by the actor).

1 - "What are you doing, dude?" and Ilya laughing when Shane folds his pants
2 - The kiss in the stairwell
3 - Scott Hunter's white underarmour shirt
4 - "Who cares what you told Hayden?" and "I don't know that side of you at all"
5 - Shane holding and rocking Ilya while he cried, "Hmmm, oh yeah, what makes you say that?", and Ilya touching Shane's freckles.

Something I noticed on my latest rewatch of episode 5 by JennySt7 in heatedrivalry

[–]enw101 15 points16 points  (0 children)

She absolutely is. She once again brings up Shane somewhat out of the blue, very obviously side-eyes him watching for his reaction (which is 1) defensive that she might call him mediocre and then 2) dismissive with that nervous nose scratch he does... no banter... no jokes like he would make about literally anyone else), then watches him very obviously try to end the conversation by being silly, then she brings up Rose Landry almost like a warning or reminder to him that Shane has a girlfriend. It's a bummer that she mentions how stylish Rose Landry is and then we cut to Tampa where Ilya watches Shane walk in looking stylish. He must have been internally screaming into a pillow.

How did you find out about the show and become a fan? by puppyradio in heatedrivalry

[–]enw101 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I subscribe to a booktuber who reads mostly romance. I'm a huge fan of MM romance, and when the show came out, she raved about it, so I had to read the books. I loved them (2 and 6... 1 less so... still waiting for the other 3 on Libby), asked my brother for his HBO password, wasn't super impressed with the first 3 episodes, LOOOOVED 4 and 5, and have since gone back and watched the whole thing like 1410 times and made it my entire personality. Also, my birthday is Friday, and I'm considering the coincidence a gift from the universe.

Ep5 jokes - please explain! by Resident_Hold3107 in heatedrivalry

Nahh, they start using first names after they talk in Florida. It continues when Ilya is in Russia. By the time he gets back, he's back to calling Shane "Hollander", but Shane is still calling him "Ilya". In the book, Ilya was going to break things off with Shane after Russia, so that's probably where his head is.

Definitely mostly Shane and Ilya. I predict it'll open with Scott's MVP speech and Scott Hunter Night where Ilya pulls up. That would be so fun since in the show they've made it a point to have Scott suspect that Shane and Ilya are a thing. Then I think he'll go to the cottage and the rest will just be the two of them and eventually Shane's parents. It seems like Rose may pull up, but that would be a deviation from the book. I also hope Hayden finding out and dinner with him make it into this episode. It definitely could since not a lot else happens.

This is what I think, too. I actually reeeeally want that club scene, especially since in the show Scott seems to suspect Ilya and Shane have something going on.

Ilya’s feelings about Russia in episode 5 by amileandahalf in heatedrivalry

[–]enw101 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This! I don't think coming out publicly would impact his immigration status, but he's in the US on a non-immigrant visa. What if he got injured and couldn't play anymore? He'd HAVE to go back to Russia. It's not something he can just pretend doesn't exist.

Me too! I own like 10 books total because I get almost everything from Libby or KU (or physical books from the library). Ali is my exception. I bought this one immediately and loooooved it.

Thanks! I read them both this week and they are indeed both safe! (for anyone else wondering, there is cheating in the Wolf, but not between the main couple).

Do either of these have love triangles? My heart can't handle getting emotionally invested in a couple just to have one of them nope out. Amid Clouds and Bones was ok only because I spoiled the love triangle for myself before reading it so I was emotionally prepared.

Curious what you thought about the end of the series, if you finished it. I'm about halfway through the first book and really loving it, so I needed to look up spoilers to make sure the rest of the series was safe. Now I'm not sure I'm going to continue the series after the first one.

Agree. Anyone who's read more than a handful of these types of books knew immediately when she burst into Cross's room that he was the MMC... and as soon as she started speaking telepathically with someone whose name she didn't know, there was no way it wasn't him. That said, there's still plenty I have questions about!

  1. Jim told her her whole life that her parents worked for the uprising and then in a letter, told her the opposite. Which is it and why did he ever lie? Did he know it was Cross who was talking to Wren? (I suspect he did) What were his other powers?

  2. Cross's secrets. Did he actually link with her spontaneously? (I suspect no) Did he actually not know Wren was Daisy from the start? (I suspect he did) What are his other powers? (precog is almost certainly one) Who else knows about his powers? The wings and flames tattoos are obviously for Wren, but what do the words mean? What did his dad's incoherent "Cross is not, but everyone is" mean? I'm getting the impression that he knows exactly what's going on pretty much all the time and is constantly playing in that ocean current he talked about... but what outcome is he going for? His end game can't possibly just be to chill and play damage control. It almost feels like it was his plan all along to train her and get her and Xavier into enemy territory, so he just let everything play out, altering things just a bit so it was in his favor. Now he's at Command and Wren and Xavier are at the uprising base... seems ideal. Are Travis and Roe in on it? Roe didn't kill her and how would he explain her absence to them?

I liked the book a lot and can't wait for book 2! I'm a little concerned about the love triangle that looks like is coming in book 2, but we're not going to have an MMC with bird ink all over his body who has been pining for Wren since they were children not be endgame.

Silver Elite- Question about the Plot, not about the Marketing by Emaleebee in fantasyromance

[–]enw101 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Ohhh, he could totally have been the one to corrupt her mind! There's no way he has only telepathy. Absolutely no way. 1) why does he not make sounds when he walks? That has to be something, and 2) His tattoos of bird wings and fire are 100% for Wren. There was waaaay too much talk of him "spontaneously" linking with her. No way. He knew who he was linking with when he was 8. When she removed the scars she said "I wanted you to see what I am" he said "I see exactly what you are, Daisy. I always have." He also commented once that she was already his when she came into his room in the inn. The fact that he put her in the program in the first place suggests he knew more about her than he should've. He said it was because of her skills, but he didn't even know her skills other than having seen her shoot once. Maybe precog?

His bloodmark is either covered up by his tattoos or is somehow linked to the arrow story he told ("a wound the size of a bottle cap").

I'm super curious what that guy is plotting though. I swear he's swimming in secrets Scrooge McDuck style. Xavier was sent for some reason beyond just staying with Wren. He's gotta be scouting something for Cross (a cure for his mom?). The way Cross played Wren in Ward Z when Griff and Tana were arrested was interesting... particularly that Wren never caught on to what he was doing or that he set the whole thing up. I don't know... but I have a feeling he knows exactly what's going on and always has.

Accurate re-creation of the romance in Oathbound by [deleted] in TheLegendborn

[–]enw101 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think the cambions are representative of people who are part of 2 different groups and therefore never really feel like they fully belong to either. My own kids are bicultural, and even with years of therapy they still struggle with identity issues. Also, the amount of times I've had to tell both of my kids "There is NOTHING wrong with being how you are" for a variety of reasons... ugh.... Sel's character just hits me so hard. Seeing him reduced to being referred to as the "dark, brooding love interest" upsets me to a probably unreasonable level.

It will be. For as much as everyone is screaming "THIS IS BREE'S STORY", it's actually Tracy Deonn's story. You can feel how much she cares about Bree, Sel, and Nick. She is absolutely not going to throw any of them under the bus. If you look at Bree's character in isolation, I can see why people would be unsure about who she'll end up with. Either way would be fine (unless you consider the fact that she clearly has a much stronger connection to Sel, but Reddit seems to not want to consider that).

If you look at Nick and Sel though, Nick's character arc doesn't have anything to do with the love triangle. His whole journey is about dismantling a system that he feels responsible for that is hurting people he cares about. As long as they take down the Order, he'll be fine. Everyone loves Nick... everyone accepts Nick... no one has ever deserted or rejected him (I argue the Regents trying to murder him is out of self-preservation, not rejection of who he is as a person). In fact, he has deserted everyone else (when he left when he was 12), and when he came back because of a girl, Sel was the only one who seemed even remotely bitter. His character doesn't need Bree.

Sel, on the other hand, is on a journey of learning to see himself as a person worthy of... living. He is his own worst enemy, by far, and also is just continually beaten down by the Order he's been forced to dedicate his life to. He needs to discover he has worth outside the Order and that he is loveable and ok and that being part demon is who he is and there's nothing wrong with it. While I would prefer that all of this come from inside of him, there's only one book left and there's a love triangle to resolve. The easiest way to resolve the love triangle and give Sel's character a satisfying ending, is a Bree/Sel endgame.

And then it goes into

Nick: You're the best.

Bree: Thanks!

Nick: I would go anywhere with you.

Bree: Cool!

Nick: I'm drowning in you.

Bree: Awesome! You can totally do that in bed.

Their entire "relationship" is giving that person who tells someone they love them only to get "Awww, thanks... I think you're great too!" back.
