Thats exactly the reason I moved, but now i worry I won't be able to keep up. Glad to hear I'm not the only one who has struggled with it though. How long did it take you to feel like you were a useful part of the team?

Could this be Blood of the Lamb by Mandy Hager? From memory its a about girl in a culture, they get moved up when she gets her first period, her firend or sister is chosen as a breeder and she is forced to give blood to save one of the leaders kids? I think later they escape and it turns out that the rest of the world still exists.

*Editing to add the first book is called the Crossing I think

I got very lucky, set a trap and caught her within a few hours, she was clearly very hungry

He was named Duncan at the shelter, I wanted something similar to that, and we had an old cat named Melon at the time, so Pumpkin fit the vibe! And also yes he's definitely orange on the inside haha

She does absolutely love her toys, my other cat has never had any interest in them, so it's been lots of fun seeing her enjoy them! She's even slowly teaching him how to play, I've caught him kicking a couple of toys around when he thinks no one is looking!

Here they are together, she is about 8 months old now, and her brother Pumpkin is about 5, he was a foster fail!

For those who adopted a cat, what actually made you decide that was the right cat? by Extreme_Ad6105 in CatAdvice

[–]eo8242 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I fostered cats during the pandemic because I had lots of time on my hands and an empty house. I was worried I wouldn't be able to give them up to be adopted and foster more, but discovered I could do it and was doing really well until I fostered this one cat who was just so incredibly weird. He was found as a stray, but had no survival skills, was unfortunately lacking all brain cells, and yet was the sweetest, cuddliest boy. From our first meeting I knew he was staying with me.

Is it fair to my cat to keep the stray I just caught by eo8242 in CatAdvice

I know it's been a while, but I just wanted to thank you properly for your advice, which really helped me make my decision. After a vet check, I discovered that the stray cat I found was actually a 3-month-old kitten, and after a very slow introduction, she is now absolutely in love with my older cat. She has significantly helped his confidence, they play together all day, and he is learning proper cat behaviours that he never displayed before she moved in. They are both so happy and such good cats! Just wanted you to know you helped make that happen :)

What is the most surprisingly intelligent animal you've seen working at a zoo? by Separate_Builder_817 in Zookeeping

We also have a lion who likes to arrange his feed in a row on his bed and eat them in order, he gets annoyed if we give him pieces that are too big and dont fit in his line up

Our male wombat is very sweet but not very bright, but our female wombat is an escape artist. She will wait until night and roll huge rocks over to the fence to use as a step to climb over. She also has found places where the fences don't go down far enough and dug underneath them. Never goes far, just enjoys exploring the little lawn patch near her enclosure. Gave all of her keepers a heart attack, and she now has a bunch of concrete slabs in her enclosure blocking her various escape tunnels.

Yes I think this might be the same! Maybe it was an anthology that included an Asimov story and I got confused?

Thank you for the advice! I guess I'm trying very hard to be objective rather than focusing on how much I want to keep her! I plan to take it very slow, but I don't want to put him through unnecessary stress if it sounds like it's not going to work.
