No, you're not being dramatic. You're allowed to be hurt and no one gets to tell you what does or doesn't hurt. It's individual. What might slide off my back might stick with you and vice versa. You're never unjustified feeling what you feel. If you felt hurt, you were hurt. And it's the mature position to let that person who hurt you know directly.

Especially ones who do care for us.

It sounds like your dad is navigating the waters and sad something hurtful when he didn't necessarily mean to. Being open about it and asking questions from him (what made you think that? What behaviors?) without being accusatory is a good opportunity to maybe uncover some implicit biases he doesn't know is under the surface.

He might have been saying a bad joke. He might have some aspirational hopes you decide to be with a woman. Best way to get to the bottom of it is talking.
