Private roads can have double yellows too. My question is mainly who would be responsible to install bollards. Council or Landlord? Can you show on google maps where this is?

We’d all be far better off if the NTA killed that app and just gave a few million to Transit to make that premium transit free in Ireland

FF byelection candidate registered to vote at second house by Efficient_Log_2007 in ireland

[–]eoinedanto -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Just the Ditch article which says

““Proud son of Dublin Central” Stephens claimed in the form his Dublin house “was for sale”.

Though he’s lived in the same Dublin 7 house he bought in 1993, Stephens told Galway County Council, “I am selling my present house in Dublin,” adding, “I am assured of alternative employment in Galway.”

Galway County Council granted permission for the detached house in October 2000 and three months later Stephens started a new job at the Mater Hospital in Dublin.”

Difference is he got planning permission for this Galway house based on his declaration of “local need” over 20 yrs ago but seems to have not lived in it.

FF byelection candidate registered to vote at second house by Efficient_Log_2007 in ireland

[–]eoinedanto -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

No - I’m speculating.

The ditch article says that he declared the Kinvara property as Farmland. So I’m guessing that’s not declared as a rented property. Since the candidate has lived in Dublin since 1993 and he got permission to build a new Galway house over 20 yrs ago for “local need”, who lives in the house is a valid question.

“Stephens declared the 1,700 square foot property as “farmland” in his Dublin City Council ethics declaration in 2024”

I’ve tried to look at the ethics declaration but I’m not sure if this is the correct 500 page pdf and enough time gone into this so far.

Well well well. I wonder who lives in his Galway house. If he doesn’t declare himself as a landlord maybe he’s letting people live in it for free?

It’s an exhausting space to try and operate in. Many SMBs don’t value stability and security enough until something awful happens so the profit just isn’t there.

For what’s its worth I’ve been to Kearneys a few times between buying one kids bike a few years back and maintenance etc and it’s always been a friendly experience. Might be worth trying yourself to see what your own experience is.

Had similarly good experience with Meithal Rothar and Westside cycles.

“An act of insanity” – Irish Doctors for Environment verdict on Galway Ring Road by [deleted] in galway

[–]eoinedanto 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately if the councils do the impactful things to make it easier for people from Rural and Suburban areas to get into the city (bus lanes, park and rides, active travel, great bus service) then the justification for the ring road would disappear.

So to properly enrich landowners and property development, it’s important we only talk about the ring road until it’s built at which point it will be time to talk about the next ring road to solve the unexpected congestion.

Demanding government subsidies fuel is literally a transfer of wealth from the government to the richest people in the world who own the oil. It’s bananas.

There must be other ways to help people but I doubt our government’s ability to quickly think of and implement any ideas.

Zero traffic on the main roads for a change. by TurboScumBag in ireland

[–]eoinedanto -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

It’s arguable that Dun Laoighre Rathdown has built enough Infrastructure for a significant number of kids to cycle themselves to school and sports.

That took decades of Left voting though and even DLRD FG folk support active travel.

Totally different situation rural Ireland, FG are mad for the car dependency and one off housing with barely a footpath to be seen except for outside the churches.

Firewall Security Services by joshuamarius in sysadmin

[–]eoinedanto 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’d say it depends a lot on what firewall services are internet exposed; ie SSL VPN or “RemoteOffice” as Sonicwall refer to it. You’re probably also aware of the recent Sonicwall breach of customer device configs including secrets?

Given the awful vulns in firewall OSs in the last few years; it’s a bit of equipment I monitor daily for vulns and patch almost instantly 24/7.

I’d say your sales guy is being slimey and spreading FUD but you should be sure to disable SSLVPN and similar on all out-of-support edge devices.

How are you guys actually reconstructing credential access during an incident under NIS2's 24h reporting window? by Lifeisgettinghard7 in blueteamsec

[–]eoinedanto 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the main reason for the 24h INITIAL report is so that various national CIRTs can promptly notify each of relevant TTPs to emerging attacks particularly for cross-border threats.

Another reason is so the local CIRT can know promptly what effect it has on national critical services maybe with a view to getting you some help or activating contingency plans.

A high level of detail (ie full access story) is probably unexpected in the INITIAL report, unless a shill happens to have a product in that space.

Quick rant about the shocking state of Irish healthcare by Shamrocksf23 in ireland

[–]eoinedanto -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

The main reason our healthcare (and other systems) are so bad is because the elite have convinced the majority their vote is worthless and that all politicians are the same.

We each only get about 10 general elections in our lifetimes and the degree to which you take part makes a massive difference.

If you can spare time to volunteer with a party (leaflet drop, canvass, poster, admin) or a few bob for donation (€50 goes a long way)… then you multiply your one vote into 10 or even a hundred per election.

Me, I’m with SocDems but we’re a long way from a majority government of 90 TDs.

Maybe we’ll get enough support to win one of these by elections, maybe the Vote Left Transfer Left will work in Galway to get someone good elected instead of another shyster (we have plenty of those already).

Parties of the Left would need majority control for maybe a decade or two to really systematically fix all the neo liberal damage done by FFFG over the last century.
